I’ve been going nuts here trying to decide if I should pick up a new Kimber Ultra CDP II or the Ultra Carry II. I had them in hand today for darn near an hour and feel in love with the gun. What an incredible carry gun. The only draw back for the CDP is the stainless slide which does not make for a very tactical element however what an incredibly engineered pistol. One good thing on the Ultra Carry II is the price.

The question I have is how accurate are these Kimber 3" variants? I know they will not be as accurate as the 5" of course. I am purchasing strictly for carry purposes. If these 3†variants are half as accurate as my friends Gold Match I would be very happy because that puppy shoots 10 ring all day long.

How would the Ultra's handle the +P and 45 Super?

I have an Ultra Carry (series 1) and it's scary acurate for a short tube. It has been thoroughly reliable with all types of factory ammo (I routinely practice with S&B 230 gr hardball, carry Fed 165 gr PD or 185 gr Slvertips or Gold Dots, P or +P for SD). It is sensitive to 'limp wristing' (operator error), but otherwise, it just runs and runs. I did upgrade to Ashley (now XS) Big Dot Express sights, which are just super on a carry pistol.

Mine has the alloy frame, so I limit my +P to just certifying functionality and occasional practice. AFAIK, .45 Super is a No-no without at least changing to heavier recoil springs(the gun uses compound captured springs like H&K), and I'd definitely check with Kimber. Shorty .45's take some pretty fine design/engineering to get them to run reliably, and I just don't see .45 Super in the equation without proper mods.

It is a great little carry gun, good luck. HTH.

Do you get any bullet expansion out of that short barrel? I'm glad yours is working well I know alot of the ultra short barreled 1911's are pretty finicky.
