I've been looling at the Kimber Ultra CDP II as my next carry pistol, years back I carried a Star PD, liked the weight, recoil was managable, had some hammer bite. I like some opinions about the Kimber before I spend some hard earned money.
 
Kimber couldn't be a better choice. Get it. I'll be getting one as soon as CA will allow me to I can only buy one every 30 days.

100% dependable with anything I have tried. Very accurate, more accurate than needed really. Recoil is stout with +P loads, but manageable. Recoil is not as bad as some make out. I took the wings off mine and added a modified Wilson safety which does not stick out, (I cut the wing off and countoured it like the Colt Commander safety). I also added a Wilson bullet proof slide stop because I like them. Niether mod was necassary though.
 
Kimber Ultra CDP II

Had mine since last August. Carry it about 90% of the time. Give the other ones a chance every so often. Wife likes how it handles. Hope I don't lose it to her.
 
The Ultra CDP is a great CCW. The aluminum frame makes the weapon 7 ounces lighter than steel framed guns and much easier to carry. I have carried my 3” CDP now for over a year and have fired well over 5,000 rounds through it with no malfunctions of any kind. 100 % reliable and very accurate as well. You won’t be sorry if you chose a Kimber Ultra CDP.

Great gun, nice for carry. I've had mine for about four years and I have no complaints.

Things to consider:

Look for one that has the internal extractor. Run from any and all external models.
Hold about $225 back to upgrade the mainspring housing and lock work to C&S lock work and a steel MS housing.
 
A cop friend of mine is selling a brand spanking new one for $1,043. Is that a good price?

A bit high, but not unheard of price. I gave $950 for mine. I see them for around $1,050 though. I gave $1,000 for a CDP Pro. Top dollar, but it was here and I could see it and feel it and look it over good. Both have been fine guns. The Ultra has taken the place of the Pro and I will probably sell the Pro some day to help finance something else.

Ditto on getting rid of the plastic mainspring housing. Get an Ed Brown or a Kimber. I got a Kimber for the Pro and put a Kimber Tactical Ultra housing/magwell on the CDP Ultra.
 
A friend has a couple CDP, along with 5 or 6 other Kimbers.

I have 3 "Ultras" and a Compact Carry Kimber.
Personally I don't like the "melt" style on guns.

IMO the best Kimber, actually about one of the best guns I've shot and owned is the Kimber Tactical Ultra II. It was $920 OTD at a gun show.

One thing I especially like about the Tactical Ultra is the feed ramp is steel, being part of the barrel. As far as I know the feed ramp on other Ultras is part of the aluminum frame.

My CDP Ultra has a ramped barrel as did my Tactical Ultra which I gave to my nephew. I believe all of Kimbers 3" guns have the ramped barrel. Springfield puts a ramped barrel in all of their Aluminum framed guns regardless of barrel length which I think is a good idea.

Nice looking Tactical Ultra M2 Carbine. I missed mine so much I bought the CDP Ultra. I was looking for another Tactical, but this CDP caught my eye and passed inspection. I am glad I bought it and no nephew is getting this one. I'll buy em a new one first, but they can't have this one.:)
 
Neither my Ultra Carry or Ultra Eclipse have ramped barrels. Of course the Eclipse frame is steel. So that's why I assumed the Tactical was the only one with the ramped barrel.

I'll ask my friend about his CDP.

The Tactical is a good looking pistol but since the picture I've uglied it up a little.
Took the ambi safety off and replaced those nice looking grips with Crimson Trace Laser Grips.
I also removed the magazine guide and put thin floor plates on the Wilson magazines.

I put the grips on the plain jane Ultra carry to dress it up a little.

Miswritten: I meant : I believe all their ALUMINUM framed 3" guns have ramped barrels. I'm pretty sure.:)

I take all the airplane wings off my 1911's M2 Carbine.:)

Kimber started putting ramped barrels in the aluminum 3" guns mid-late 2002, prior to that the ramp was part of the frame. so there are aluminum series II guns out there without ramped barrels. For that matter ALL pre series II Ultras have the ramp as part of the frame.

I haven't got a Kimber Ultra CDP II, but I do have the Kimber Stainless Ultra
Carry II in .45 ACP. Its been an awesome weapon, right out of the ole' box.
Shoots everything I feed it, without any problems; including all types of JHP
ammunition. Nowdays, I carry it most everyday; but on occassion I rotate it
with my S&W 642, on days when I dress more for comfort~!:uhoh: ;) :D
