Pat-inCO:
That's seriously funny.
My point is the extreme difference in price range. Now, admittedly, the OP didn't propose dropping the Prom Queen for the local bag-lady of 1911A1s, but I think you get the point.
In my experience, dollar amount expended has not netted equal quality or equal reliability. My most expensive 1911A1 cost me approximately $2,000.00 for a Custom Shop model, and it was horrid. In another thread, I recently stated of my Colt collection, that while I do like my modern-era Colt 1911A1s, I wish I had known 3 years back what I know now. That knowledge then would have led me to purchase 1 or 2 low-round-count WWII era 1911A1s.
As I view 1911A1s, regardless of make or model, they serve two purposes: 1) to go bang every time the trigger is pulled, and 2) to impact within MO-BG at defensive ranges. All the same, firearms preference is much like selecting with whom one might like to date: some like blondes, some like brunettes and some like redheads. One credit I have to give Kimber, the company makes more models, sizes, etc, than any 1911A1 manufacturer of which I am familiar.
Anyone seen any low-round-count Remington-Rand or Colt 1911A1 at reasonable price lately? I might be interested. Then again, maybe the OP would like to see a picture of one too. It isn't about make or model...it's making informed decisions, which enable us to achieve the point of rationality: purchasing the most 1911A1 for the least amount of money.
JMHO.
