ok so i bought a mosin 48 1/2 inch 91/30 so im hacking away at her.. im gonna be trimming and molding the stock so it flows into the barrel (still free floated) like the ati stock does.. whats a good rule of thumb of how far the barrel can stick out past the end of the stock? dont want it to turn out looking like the barrel is a mile long or vice versa that the stock goes on forever.:uhoh:

Make sure you double check all of the marking before you [strike]ruin[/strike] irreversibly alter your rifle.

Take it apart, and double check all the markings.

Although it's unlikely, if it's a collectible rifle, you could sell it and buy the rifle you really want instead.

as Kozak said check your markings, and then hack away till you get where you want. I shortened my barrel by 6"s and took the stock back to the step. It reminds me of a break barrel pellet gun like this, barrel is a bit too long lol. I was thinking i could turn it into a manlicher style rifle, but the step down was more then i could blend.

What kind of.markings would it have to be collectable its a 1939 round reciever and not a tula either.. all my numbers match so I'm not.modifieing anything with numbers on it

I'm.not cutting the barrel and molding and smoothing the stock to make it longer and the cutting it off

i personally like the looks of top handguards so if you cut the stock to the back handguard ring and taper it a little then leave about 2-4in of barrel thats what i think looks nice.
