Dang it. Suppose one of these days I'll have to get a custom Bowie, they truly are works of art.

Wonder how much stainless Damascus runs.

Damascus prices are significantly higher than "plain" steels... (I use "plain" to simply mean NOT damascus)... Plus it depends on where you buy it from, and of course, stainless damascus is more expensive than carbon steel damascus.
Chad Nichols is one of the best young guys making it, and you can buy bars of his stainless damascus in 12 x 2 x 3/16" for between $240 and $300.

No disrespect to Mr. Staple. I've been buying, collecting, selling custom knives for over 25 years. The price for that knife is for the clueless, even if it was the knife used in the movie with provenance. The only reason someone would want one is the movie connection. It is a traditional design, meaning rough and not fancy. I have well made damascus bowies for much less that are balanced for fighting. They are from new but skilled makers and are a good investment. Mr. Staple is to be respected for his skill and history in knife making. But I believe he has over estimated the market. His best bet would have been to make a deal with United like Gil Hibben. Many more of these knives would sell at $99.99

If anyone knows of any of these knives being sold I would appreciate a bump. I could always be proven wrong.

Cheers,

ts

Sam,

It wasn't Mr. Stapel, but it was someone related to the web business handling the site. they've been dealt with by their employer.

Have people not learned that we (forum junkies ;) ) are actually pretty good at spotting a troll?

scramasax, I think the price point is for the people who have to have it and have to have it before anyone else can have it.
I expect once they get past the first handful and perceive if there is a market for the knife, that it'll be a reasonably priced reproduction as with most other movie and tv repros.

I like the rough look of it. And I dug the movie. But I'm not so materialistic as to pay that price for it just because it looks rustic and is one of x pieces.

Anyone know what the knife that Harrison Ford gives the kid in Cowboys and Aliens is?
This is Chuck Stapel. I see that someone is asking about the knife that Harrison Ford used in “Cowboy’s And Aliens”. I did make the knife for Harrison. I’ve made knives for other movies as well, and received this order from the gun coach for the stars of the movie, the legendary gun expert Thell Reed (he has the title of the Fastest Gun In The World, by the way, and I think you can see him do his stuff on You Tube on old Ed Sullivan shows and has his own website). I was instructed that Harrison wanted the knife to look like a “California style bowie” with the three pin handle, which is what I gave him. To answer another question on this thread, I have created a very limited edition of five reproductions of the knife. One has just been ordered, so there are four left. Please feel free to read more about it on my website: stapelknives.com.
