Cheap junk definitely sells. Dad used to sell a lot of Bryco pistols, and it wasn't salesmanship, believe me. He never recommended the darn things, but that's what people wanted.
Most people would rather pay the minimum and put up with the junk. And most of them are right--they don't use a pocketknife more than once a week for very light work and it'll never matter if the one in their pocket breaks. Myself, I bought cheap stainless alloy silverware and blue glazed plates when we got married. I'm sure there are people out there who would think that was crazy, when I could have saved up awhile and bought real silver or whatever, but it's plenty good enough for me.
What irritates me is that they don't advertise these as cheap throwaway knives but as valuable, top-quality collectors' items.
