Knoxx questions

An old friend who is somewhat hobbled up is trying to take up hunting again (Dove and quail for now) and has found his ol 12 gague is a bit much and a 20ga is useful only for about 10 or so shots before he is pretty much through.

He saw an add for a Knoxx recoil reducer

has anyone had any experience with the Knoxx system?

I saw a similar recoil reducer in a megabuck Benneli? and another trap gun.

does it work as advertised?

I have the folding version: The CopStock, not the CompStock, though they share the same actual recoil controlling mechanism.

Yes, it works. I would wager that the CompStock works a bit better, because the CopStock just has a U shaped wire buttstock and the CompStock has an actual... Well, stock.

The definitive test was shooting skeet with a friend of mine with my 590. We both have the same gun, but mine is riced out and his is stock (yes, I shoot skeet with a tacticool evil black shotgun). After fifty rounds or so we switched guns, just for the heck of it.

My reaction: Ow, crikey!
His reaction: This feels weird, but it's neat!

Compstock is great

I've got a Compstock on my Winchester 1300, and it tames the recoil right down. My shotgunning is mostly geared toward home defense, so I fire a lot of buckshot and slugs. Practice with the factory stock would leave my shoulder distinctly sore for a day or two. With the Compstock, no soreness at all, even after an extended range session.

As long as the LOP is suitable for your friend, I'd say go for it.

Just tried my Knoxx SpecOps stock for the first time. I got it because I wanted the adjustable LOP for my wife and I (very different sized people!) and after 25 full house slugs yesterday I was ready to shoot 25 more ... and not even a twinge of soreness this AM. With the SpecOps stock, you do have to warm up to the AR-15 look, but the ergonomics are simply great. I was anticipating some "wannabe mall ninja" type comments at the range, but people who understand what the design does for you will understand that it is just a prime example of function winning out over fashion.

Highly recommended if recoil reduction is what you are looking for ... not recommended at all if classic good looks are a priority
