I found what appears to be a decent deal on ebay on a Knoxx Specops stock and Powerpack combo from a supplier called NISupplyOnline ... $154 for the combo. I think I ordered on Thursday night and received the order on Tuesday ... very prompt order processing and shipping. The Specops stock and Powerpack came factory sealed.
After removing the items from their packaging, I found both items to be sturdy and well-made. The Powerpack has some assembly required, although a small ball-end hex wrench was included with the Powerpack. The Specops stock required a larger ball-end hex wrench, but it was not included. The Powerpack was actually a pain in the butt to put together because you have to screw in 8 hex screws from odd, cramped angles with the supplied ball-end hex wrench (its tiny). After fiddling around for about half an hour I managed to get it together.
Because I didn't have a ball-end hex wrench that would fit the Specops stock, I made a quick trip to Walmart and was able to find a pocket set labeled "Sheffield Week-Ender" (if you find these, be sure to get the standard set and not the metric unless you just really think the're cool and buy both like I did). With the addition of Permatex Threadlocker - medium, I was ready to go. The Sheffield ball-end hex wrench set worked great for installing the stock, although it was just barely long enough to do the job. The Specops stock matched right up with my Mossberg 500. I can still reach the safety on top and the slide release on the side by pivoting my hand.
Having mounted the Knoxx Specops stock to my Mossberg and the Powerpack to the stock, I decided to load up the Powerpack. Unfortunately, the Powerpack shell slots seem a little too small for the Remington 00 buckshot I have on hand. It took a good bit of work to get them in there. For a couple of the shell slots, I actually had to grab a key to pry the slots open a bit to get the shell to slide in. Needless to say, they don't come out very easily either. Hopefully it'll loosen up over time. There's obviously a compromise between the slots being too loose and dropping ammo and being so tight that you really have to work to get shells in and out. It might help if Knoxx decides to chamfer the shell slots a little, but I'm not an engineer, so what do I know? I MAY try this with a dremmel and see if it helps.
I've heard a ton of good things about the Specops stock and from what I can tell it fits well and is well made. My only complaint about the construction is that the left side of the stock behind the trigger has obviously been cut out to make room for the slide release. Knoxx apparently are made this modification as an afterthought to accomodate the Mossberg slide release instead of casting a new mold. However, you do have to look fairly closely to tell and the modification does allow good access.
So there you have it. I can't wait to get to the range and experience the greatly reduced recoil that everyone raves about.
