I almost made it to the register with my SpecOps Stock but I read the warning on the back:

The Knoxx SpecOps Stock is NOT compatible with the Mossberg 590 DA. Use of the SpecOps Stock with the Mossberg 590 DA will cause product failure and possible injury.

I love my 590DA but almost anything I want to get for it isn't compatible ... this stock, Surefire forend, etc. I'm surprised the ammo is compatible. I feel like I bought a Beta recorder ... again. I was wondering what it is about the operation of the SpecOps that would cause product failure?

Does anyone know of a recoil reduction device out there that will fit my Mossy 590DA? Does anyone have one (recoil reduction on their 590DA ... not the gun)? I tried the search feature here but nothing useful came up. I have a few feelers (emails) out but have yet to hear back from anyone.

Good for you for reading the instructions.

The Knoxx stock's design allows part of the receiver to recoil into the stock as the mechanism to absorb recoil- sort of like a shock absorber. Could be something to do with the size/shape of the trigger guard on the DA 590 perhaps?

I was tempted ever so briefly to buy it and try it anyway. It's amazing that at my age the thought even crossed my mind. I guess it's human nature.

It seemed like a perfect solution for me. My 13 year old son used this gun in competition over the weekend. I tried really hard to discourage him but he insisted on using the shotgun. I knew before the match that the length of pull was a little too much for him but he demonstrated that he could operate and handle the gun safely so I conceded. He had surprised me (as well as all present) previously with his abilities at handling a 1911 in competition using factory loads.

However, after the first stage of fire I could tell the gun was going to be handful for the rest of the match. The next day he had a wicked looking bruise on his arm. He admitted that a few times he failed to set the stock properly into his shoulder and instead caught his bicep for a few rounds. By the way, he fired 52 rounds through the shotgun and 112 rounds of .45 ACP through my Kimber.

Anyway, I thought the SpecOps Stock would solve the length of pull and recoil management issues at the same time. My son admitted that perhaps a youth model semi auto shotgun chambered in 20 gauge ... with reduced recoil loads would have been a better gun. Before I go shopping for a new shotgun, I want to identify any potential recoil management solutions for this gun. That is, if there are any out there to be found.

Mossberg makes stocks with shorter lengths of pull- you might try one of those. Good fit is critical, but a 'too short' stock is easier to handle than one that is too long. Mechanical recoil reduction is seldom really needed by those who use good form and manageable loads.
