I'm making a last minute run to Kentucky right now and need to know what KY carry restrictions are. I do have reciprosity with KY.

What postings are valid and have the force of law behind them?

Thanks

handgunlaw.us says

- no carry in a bar or the bar area of a restaurant
- police stations, courthouses
- child care facilities
- privately owned medical facilities may post against carry with force of law
- private employers may prohibit employees from carrying
- Rest stops, state parks, state forests, except for "Land Between the Lakes" BUT the USDA forest service folks say they will honor permits as long as there are no other negative circumstances.

That's all I see on their site.

These seem to be presented as restricted areas in your post, though the site referenced indicates otherwise for rest stops, state parks, and state forests. The Land Between the Lakes Recreational Area is, I believe, administered under the National Parks, which may account for the restrictions. This may be outdated by the recent changes. Mammoth Cave National Park and the Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site are probably similarly affected.

Uh...yeah. That came out all wrong. SORRY! Rest stops, state parks, state forests are all GOOD. The "LBTL" lands are the questionable one, but it sounds like you should be ok there too.

Any specific wording or symbols required as elsewhere or is a "No Weapons" sign enough to make it illegal?

I haven't seen any language that says there's any requirements on the sign.

Handgunlaw.us only says about this:
If the building or the premises are open to the public, the employer or business enterprise shall post signs on or about the premises if carrying concealed weapons is prohibited.

But, again, that only seems to relate to very specific businesses, mostly in the healthcare field.

Best I can tell you at the moment.

I'm pretty sure there are no specific requirements on signage for posted privately owned establishments, but they do not carry any legal penalty either. You can only be asked to leave and cited with trespass if you refuse to comply.

I believe requirements were passed a few years ago requiring posted signage on buildings which were prohibited by law, such as schools, or areas designated off limits by local governments. Not sure if there are any specifications for these signs.

I carry in KY weekly and have a relative with the KYSP. KY recognizes most carry permits and residents aren't limited to a firearm. They can carry anything from an axe to a Bowie with a weapons permit, not a pistol or revolver permit as mine states. A resident can carry an AR down his pants leg if he wants, legally.

LBL is controlled by the United States Dept of Agriculture. It is administered by the US Forest Service which is part of the USDA.

"- private employers may prohibit employees from carrying
But they cannot prohibit you from leaving it in your car while working. (in Ky) "

Actually where I work they are saying just that it is verboten and there is an ongoing lawsuit about this restriction.

One of the local police officers bluntly told me that if this particular employer called his dept. and demanded they search a vehicle for them he would not allow his officers to search it without a search warrant.

Lots of confusion out there on this one.

They need to read Ky state law.

From Ky 527.020

Any attempt by a person or organization, public or private, to violate the provisions of this subsection may be the subject of an action for appropriate relief or for damages in a Circuit Court or District Court of competent jurisdiction.

Ky state law is very clear on this.
