I hope that it is alright if I post a few pictures of my work.
My name is Kevin Robinson and I have been bending Kydex for the last 2 years.
My interest in posting is for feedback from the members of The High Road.
I would like very much to become a contributing member here as well as continue my education by reading past, present and future threads on firearms, knives and all things Tactical.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to look and input.

Kevin

Welcome to the forums! I pointed Kevin here after having him design a folder sheath for my Benchmade Rift. The pocket clip scratched my car door a few times when squeezing in after some inconsiderate person parked too close. Now it stays on my belt for easy access without damaging my paint. The additional benefit was less chance of it working out of my pocket when riding bikes or quads.

Great stuff as always Kevin!

I got to meet Kevin at Blade this year. He's a great guy and these sheaths look good in pictures, but are even better in person.

Thanks Much all for taking the time to look and comment.

My press is homemade with hinged plywood 2x4's and the standard 1" molding foam.

I hope that we had time to talk at the show, it was pretty busy Friday and Saturday but slowed down enough Sunday that I could have at least a short conversation.

Are you using a toaster oven, heat gun or boiling water to make the thermoplastic moldable?

eldiabloe1 reminded me that I did not mention that all of my sheaths and light carriers are Level II retention, this is achieved via a patent pending user manipulated locking system of my design.
The lock allows the knife/light to be carried inverted if the user so chooses.
I am posting a few pictures to give an idea of how the lock works.
Pic's #1 and 2 are out of order.

I was tagging around with Murph from knifedogs.com all weekend, and we spent about almost an hour over there at the end of Saturday. No worries on not remembering me specifically, it was an overwhelming weekend for me too... :)

Pics 3 and 4 are in the correct order.

I am definitely impressed with these. Lot of detail, good style and what appears to be better functionality than many of the types I have seen. My interest is always piqued when I see kydex used for anything besides guns and fixed blades.

Glistam:
Thanks Much, I have experimented with bending kydex around many, many objects from a pocket watch to bic lighters, some with great success others with not so good results.
The one thing that is consistent with all attempts is that I enjoy the experience of engineering something functional when everything comes together and learning from the ones that don't.

i am very interested in your kydex work. i am a knifemaker and would love to have a couple of sheaths for my knives. they are very nice. love the use of two different colors of kydex. very nice.

I made my own press and did a sheath tonite, and I have EVEN MORE respect for what you are able to do! Unless you have some magic spell, its not as easy as 1-heat 2- press 3- Voila!

No it is not as easy as it looks, however as with everything else, once you get the hang of it and look back and say naaaa it wasn't that hard.
BRad704:
If you have any questions let me know and I will try to answer them.
Maybe I can help take some of the headache out of the learning curve. ;)
