In the last year, I bought two knives with kydex sheaths; both without any provision for an integral or screwed-on belt loop. Both have fold-over sheaths with grommets on bottom and one side only.

Any thoughts on how to attach these other than 550 cord lashing?

You'll want another piece of kydex set up like a frog wrapping around and screws to attach it to the hollow rivets. The frog will be what you use as your platform to attach your belt loop.

Measure the spacing between the holes, you might get lucky and a tek lok will line up to it. I have the hole pattern for them recorded somewhere, I will post the spacing if I find it.

Thanks, Redneck. Hadn't heard of tek lok, time to get a few samples and experiment. Google says they are available from Amazon and WalMart, so I shouldn't have trouble getting a couple of sizes for fit up.

JeffG; Thank you, I'll definitely get a few of those universal belt clips to check out. I have plenty of Chicago screws. I had thought of just borrowing the toaster oven and bending one of my own; but I didn't like the idea of uneven attachment. I thought I'd need through-screws on both sides of the sheath for balanced and steady carry.

If you use heavy thermoplastic (e.g. Kydex) you can make a rigid attachment that should support additional attachments. I recommend using O-rings to allow a snug attachment of the new Chicago screws and a bit of thread lock. All of the Kydex I've gotten came from ordering or quick purchase at Tandy. You can drop it in boiling water or use the oven. I made a cheap press out of a couple of boards and some paracord for hinges and a latch with a bit of neoprene, but I've also just thrown a towel over it and sat on the piece until it cooled enough to set. ;)

Thank you all for taking the time to share your info. I can get the kydex in Lubbock (yep, Tandy) next time I go to the big city.

You can also purchase it off the net like the TekLoks. If your hole spacing is off for the TekLoks you can just drill one hole at the spacing needed on the exsiting sheath.

Bearcreek: Thanks, that's a very nice answer to the problem! And that arrangement would also work for a kydex frog per hso's suggestion. I've been seeing more and more of those sideways sheaths from the local knife makers, but hadn't really thought about how that would work with this blade.
