...at the same releasing 1,700 of "non-violent" offenders from jail.

From the article: "Villanueva defended his decision to close gun stores, by intimating that all the first-time gun buyers emerging amid the virus crisis create a perilous situation: “I’m a supporter of the 2nd amendment, I’m a gun owner myself, but now you have the mixture of people that are not formerly gun owners and you have a lot more people at home and anytime you introduce a firearm in a home, from what I understand from CDC studies, it increases fourfold the chance that someone is gonna get shot.”

2A supporters certainly spoke up and the city council member set it straight :

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva Tuesday said gun shops in the county can remain open just hours after he called them “nonessential” under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s "Safer at Home" coronavirus order and said they would be cited if they didn’t close.

Villanueva said L.A. County Counsel Mary Wickham intervened with an opinion that gun stores could be classified as essential, according to FOX LA.

The voters put him in and I was one of those based on his rising through the ranks. Felt that he knew the street, people of the community, etc. He will not get my vote when the term comes up on the next ballot. Looking him up I see that his political party affiliation is D.

He is a political pinhead that needed to get his name in the news.

I work for a large public agency in Los Angeles. The political machine in LA is loaded with people just like him.

I am surprised he got shot down.

Funny thing is, all or pretty much all of the guns and ammo has been bought up in the LA area.

I am surprised that a local sheriff would think that he has the authority to regulate businesses and declare which are essential and which are not. Some LEOs develop the Superman complex and become intoxicated by their “power”. If the public accepts the overreaching it empowers them more. It isn’t a sheriff’s job to establish or interpret laws and that is why he was shot down.
