I wonder how many Chief of Police we would here from, if their post was an elected position.
none; they count on pleasing 4 out of 6 council members in order to keep their job.
Well, if "sanctuary" cities won't honor state/federal laws to enforce immigration laws and assist ICE, then two can play that game.

There are growing number of Sheriffs who declare their counties "sanctuary" counties and refuse to enforce gun control laws based on the Second Amendment - https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/resear...ights-counties-vow-to-resist-new-restrictions

At least 20 county Sheriffs refused to enforce state's new gun control laws - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...te-county-sheriffs-refuse-to-enforce-gun-laws

Sheriffs across Colorado declare their counties as "sanctuary" counties for Second Amendment - https://www.foxnews.com/politics/co...-gun-red-flag-law-should-resign-state-ag-says

While I like the sheriff's attitude, when it comes to federal gun laws, they will be enforced by federal law enforcement (ie., BATFE and U. S. Marshals). If the
feds can't get local help in some matter they will likely just send more feds in .... sorta like Waco.
We are a nation of a Constitution. Any law that is contradictory to a plain reading of the Constitution is of no effect. Marbury v. Madison and Plain Meaning rule.

So when a state or local official stands up to federal malfeasance, they are, in fact, serving you, the citizen, far more than the federal government you are so afraid of offending.
See, we have been "brainwashed" by the antis for too many decades ... In June of this year, city of Needles voted unanimously to declare the city a Second Amendment Sanctuary City and did the following - https://zachnews.net/2019/06/11/bre...of-needles-a-second-amendment-sanctuary-city/
  • Sheriff not enforce weapons violations by California, Nevada and Arizona residents.
  • Legislature allow an exemption to California gun laws for the City of Needles and within a 65 miles radius of Needles.
  • Legislature allow reciprocity of concealed weapons permits with Nevada and Arizona.
These brave Sheriffs are patriots and defenders of the Second Amendment.

We need to support and praise them along with many city/county government workers who are pro gun rights/2A.

I know exactly how my Sheriff feels about gun control laws and support him 100%.

I just realized the irony of someone having a signature line "proud to live in a sanctuary city" and at the same time posting about being concerned over federal reaction to non-enforcement of law. This is what happens when you have no principles and don't understand the history of your own country, boys and girls. Feelings mean more than facts and history takes a back seat to puppies and unicorns. What a joke. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.

As it happens, I was just thinking about the same thing.

How an action roughly the same as a parking infraction (entering the country illegally) is cause for literally calling out the armed forces, but breaking laws about weapons is just fine.

If breaking gun laws based on what is right is acceptable, so is breaking immigration law.

I believe we agree-- good law good, bad law bad.

The last sentence, we agree completely. But bringing it back to the sheriff we're discussing, there is an underlying principle that you're missing. Our opinion of a law means exactly nothing. What matters is how it squares, or doesn't, with the Constitution. Until you can make a solid case that a law is contrary to the intent of our founding documents, you are bound to follow it. Whether you like it or not.

And your parking ticket analogy fails quickly. There are different penalties for different crimes based on their impact to society. Parking in a fire lane gets you towed, parking elsewhere gets you a ticket. Do a little thinking about such things.

Lol, time to readjust your skinny jeans bro cause most countries will throw you in the slam for a good while if you violate their border or their gun laws. Hardly equivalent to a parking infraction. Most countries treat border jumpers and possession of illegal weapons pretty severely.

The founding fathers were slave holders. The documents they wrote reflected their faults.

I don't use them for my moral compass, I'll stick with right and wrong.

I'll follow a law that is right, I won't follow one that is wrong. If the constitution agrees with me, good for it.

I have a difficult time with this. Part of me wants to buy that sheriff a drink and shake his hand. The other part of me doesn't believe in "sanctuary cities" of any kind. A third part of me believes strongly in following the law. And a fourth part of me believes any law that is in conflict with the constitution should be ignored.

Ugh...….. what a mess.
