All this summer I have seen a steady increase of young gals at my range, it is very enlightening, just by themselves---no male cohorts, and just very focused, I am amazed at thier intense interest--and I must say they are very good shooters.
Anyone else have this experience???

Smokeyloads:)

Yes, I am a Range Officer at our local range and am seeing more and more ladies.

My wife runs a ladies only workshop once a month at the range and we average 10 ladies a month. Great to see.

My girl begs me to take her more often, and when we go we're usually a few lanes apart to do our own thing

We have a bunch of ladies come to the public range where I am a RSO but most of them come with husbands/boyfriends. We have a handful that come alone. But we just added at least two (if not more) female RSOs. We hope to see the numbers swell like the OP described here. We have seen a lot of male on female violence in this area and the ladies are getting fed up and are arming themselves and practicing. Good for them! I welcome anyone with an interest in shooting responsibly. Sex, race, color, ethnicity, orientation are all non-factors. Just bring a healthy interest in firearms and an eye for safety and I will do everything I can to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable time at the range.

Armoredman - Well done video. But I couldn't hep but notice the "ventalation" holes in the roof. Do those really help with air flow?

Those are from the "old days", before they closed the range with locked gates and fences at night, when drunk idiots would shoot at anything. Much better nowadays, but they never replaced this roof, even though updated and nice covers are on all the other ranges.

I have a couple home ranges and informally teach people to shoot or help them with their shooting.

For several years now it's been excursively females.

Pretty much the beginning of this trend started with a new neighbor that built a nice horse ranch across the road. The first time I met those people the lady said,
"Are you the one that does all the shooting?"
That's me.
"Would you teach me to shoot?"
I'd be glad to.

This lady brought two friends.

Later she brought two more (interesting) female friends. One a retired movie stunt woman and the other a world famous Quarter Horse Champion rider and breeder.
Then she brought her step daughter.

Then the stunt woman brought another woman for me to help with her shooting. This lady just got a award for the most improved shooter in the woman's team they shoot on.
The stunt woman got a award for high shooter.

This last woman brought her female cousin, then she introduced me to three more ladies that want to come to my place to shoot and see if I can help their shooting.

Then there's a neighbor lady friend and my friends teen age daughter and her female friend.

Oh yeah, two female tellers at my bank.

The lady postman said she would like me to teach her to shoot.

I have many guns for them to try and I give them the ammo so it gets them off to a good start without maybe straining the budget.

NO!!!

No more taking "ladies" to the range for me.

The last time I did should have been pleasant enough. My wife and I "hosted" two of our female friends to the local indoor range some months back. One of the women had never fired a gun before and the other said something like "yeah, i shot a few times growing up." The woman who'd never shot before had a great time, made a few mistakes that were safely handled, and overall came out with an impression of "I wan't to do that again." The other "lady" proceeded to tear out the center of targets time and again. I don't like her very much anymore. My wife now calls her Dead Eye Paige when referring to her just to needle me more.

The ladies' night at one of my local ranges is always packed. I have taken two girlfriends, and one liked it, one did not. Another wants to go. I have a few guns in different sizes to try, so I likr that I can help them find out what it's like and make their own decisions.

Women are the largest growing segment of the shooting population.
This is by design and by culture shift.

M2Carbine - If you are ever short handed and need an experienced RSO on that range.....

But seriously, really good stuff there. Maybe some of the local gun stores would be willing to toss in a box of ammo now and then. Or....talk to your local WalMart manager. I have an acquaintance in a nearby town that claims his local WalMart will allow customers to return ammunition but can't re-sell it so they give it to him. Now, he is an active Public Safety Officer so that may get him so extra sway, but get with the manager and explain what you are doing and see what they say.

Could be.:)

Only this girl's second day of ever touching a gun. I like teaching females, they make the instructor look good.:)

Both my shoulders are torn bad. (don't try to learn to ride a horse when you are 74:( )
In a couple weeks the opeations will start. I went through this in 1995 with my left shoulder. Three months of a useless arm and 24 hour pain. Now I'm going to do it again, times two.
But I still can help the ladies here with their shooting. (I'll probably be limited to a 22 pistol if I can figure out how to load a magazine with one hand)

I keep a good stock of reloads for the women and friends to shoot, like this, but if I can't add to it for 6-8 months they may put a dent in my supply.

Well I am looking for a nice lady to nurse me for about the next year.
Free room and board and free shooting. What a deal.

Rats.

M2, holy smokes, that's a lot of ammo
It does look like a lot but several shooters can go through a thousand rounds pretty fast when the shooters are rapid firing 4-5 magazines while moving, etc.

That's the advantage of having your own range, the new shooters can learn more than just how to stand in one spot and shoot at a bullseye at 7 yards.

It costs me a bit but I figure it's my way of paying back all the years I've enjoyed shooting.:)

That looks like a nice peaceful range you have there--love that last shot; would love to have a similar setup some day

love that last shot;
The girl is shooting at and mostly hitting the 12 inch square white target (52 yards).

To show how much confidence I have in her shooting, that is my Kubota tractor down there, on the right side.:D

That's some good shooting at 52 yards, WOW! Awesome range!!
Kubota tractors---none better in my opinion and I have been restoring tractors for 30 years:)

Spent a couple of hours on the range today. I haven't pulled a trigger in about a month so it was time. A foursome showed up while I was there, a local couple (man/woman) who brought two lady friends who were visiting from Pennsylvania. Both visitors were maybe mid 20s. Neither had ever shot before. Both of them had an absolute ball and both are hooked! We spent some time goinig over basics like grip, stance and not jerking the trigger. The groups weren't very tight but they were getting the picture and having fun.

Then I had a couple in their 70s come over and ask if I would work with them, mostly her, during a future visit. She said she just recently started shooting at age 72. The husband had a beautiful K-22 he was using to break her in.

Guys, you may not have noticed yet but you will soon. We are being nudged to the side and the ladies are moving in.
