Ladies Holsters

My wife is going to be graduating from purse carry to personal carry, in a holster. She (we) don't have much knowledge about how other ladies carry and she is looking for suggestions about holsters. She has read the section at the Cornered Cat on finding the right holster, that helped a great deal.

She is currently leaning toward the Cross Breed Super Tuck but is unsure because she plans on wearing at the 2 o'clock position.

For the record she carries a XD-subcompact, she is also pretty open to what type of holster she will carry, it doesn't have to be 'tuckable' it can be an IWB or an OWB. The main thing she keeps saying is that she wants it to hug up tight to her body and she doesn't want something that will be unconfrontable while sitting/driving. She seems to like the 2:00 position also.

I am trying to get out of spending hundreds of dollars trying different holsters so if anybody has a recomendation I would greatly appreciate it.

FIST is a very solid and reputable holster maker. They have done some good work on making holsters for use by women. Take a look at their work http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/lady/Default.htm and, even if you don't buy, you will learn something useful. Good luck.

Oh yeah thier belts & mag pouch are great too. My wife & I both use fist holsters/gear for CCW.

I'm trying to get her as many options as I can find, and then let her decide. Also we were thinking a IWB might not be the best idea due to the thickness of the XD, opinions are welcome.

My wife can't wear a hip holster with any comfort at all before 4 o'clock, and sitting with a hip holster was difficult for her. We picked up a blackhawk shoulder harness. You can attach any 'roto holster' to it you like, and you can set the angle to anything you like.

What she most likes about it, is she can put the paddle on the roto holster and use it as a hip holster at the range, then take the paddle off, and put it back on the harness when she carries. She can carry it as a shoudler rig on her strong side or her weak side, but she prefers it on her weak side, as a cross draw. The harness just provides an attachent point for her holster, and it can be moved to either side you want. The entire setup is about $60 ($30 for the shoulder rig, $30 for a holster). She also carries an XD, and it's worked great for her.

The biggest disadvantage to it is you can only use a 'roto-holster' which will pretty much tie you to the blackhawk line of holsters. We happen to like many of them though so I don't mind.

Thanks for mentioning the shoulder holster, we hadn't even thought of that. I don't how well it might work in our Alabama summer but it is definitely a good winter idea.

I will also look at Tucker Gun Leather and see what all they have.
