I checked my VISA statement this morning and found a charge from the CMP on it. I should have a new to me Garand in the near future. :) Now I need to lay in a supply of ammunition for it.

I'm looking for something decent but it needn't be match quality. I've found four main choices:

Lake City LC68-LC72 from the CMP
Greek HXP Pyrkal from the CMP
Korean PS in clips from AIM
Korean PS in boxes from AIM

By the time I factor in shipping, the AIM surplus stuff isn't appreciably cheaper and I have plenty of clips. So I'm looking at the Lake City and Pyrkal. I've heard good things about both. I plan on reloading the brass if that is a factor. I'm leaning towards Lake City if for no other reason than American ammo for an American gun. Perhaps I should buy one of the Greek issue Garands and get some of each? ;)

Has anyone out there used both?

I have been using Lake City. I was supposed to get my case of HXP today, but the FedEx truck didn't come by in the morning while someone was home, so I guess I'll have to wait til tomorrow.

The only reason I bought the case of Greek HXP was to try it out. I'm satisified with LC. The ammo is fine and the brass is good.

Jon,
Where are you shooting Sunday?

If you want to shoot a .50, I'm up for it if I can try out your Garand. :)

I'll be at Angeles Range, far end of the rifle range. Tell the office your with us and it's only $5 to shoot all day. www.angelesranges.com

I live in Lancaster, ASR is kind of a central meeting place for everyone in our group.

I would suggest Lytle Creek but it just doesn't do anything for me. Other guys in the group won't even think about LC, to many negatives.

50,

I have a Garand that you are welcome shoot; in fact, I got it very recently from CMP and *I* haven't shot it yet. You can show me the ropes at Angeles - I've never been there.

But, it will have to be at least until your shoot next month, as I have just moved into a new house and my wife wouldn't appreciate it if I bailed to go shooting.

Let me know when you can make it, we shoot the 3rd Sunday of every month. Unless we have one of our special shoots planned but that's not until Oct. when it starts to cool down.
