Does anyone know if the Lapua 7.62x39 brass has small flash holes like their 22russian brass does. I know it uses LR primers but I'm interested in the flash hole size. I've got a benchrest 7.62x39 project on the front burner and some top quality cases are the last piece of the puzzle.

IIRC, they are smaller than Win flash holes but they're not so small that they need special decapper pins.

I use Rem brass in 7.62x39 for my accuracy loads (CC1 400 + 27gr H4198 under Hornady 123gr SP), and in my ARs and Ruger boltie are easily MOA or better.

Hey folks,

I bought a fairly big supply of Lapua 7.62x39 ammunition a dozen years ago at what was then a fairly good sale price. It was full metal jacket and fired just fine. It reloads quite well, and if there is a difference in the flash hole of the primer, I never noticed it. I usually reload this round on my Hornady Lock & Load progressive machine, and they are usually less tolerant than a single stage machine. I would think if there would be a problem with the primer hole being smaller, it would show up on a progressive machine.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

You fellas are misunderstanding what I want. The smaller .060 flash holes are desirable for benchrest shooting. Supposedly they give much better SD between shots.

I've had no trouble getting MOA accuracy from my CZ527 using RP cases. But with this new project MOA simply will not be enough
