Hey gang, has anyone hunted with the Lapua 139 grain scenars? I want to take my Tikka .260 out for whitetail here in Pa.

As a guy who has shot heavy for caliber, TIPPED, match bullets for game, I would not use a Scenar, especially a lightish Scenar at that.
I'm much less concerned with over expansion as I am with underexpansion. I've never seen a heavy match bullet cause a surface wound, but I've seen SMKs go clean thru stuff without making a decent size hole. I've also heard of Berger's doing the same, tho my experience differs.

At this point there are lots of good hunting bullets tho, and for the most of us dont NEED any of the advantages of match bullets. I agree with the others pick out any of the "hunting" bullets and go from there.

If you already load and shoot the Scenar, and only want to hunt with your rifle now and then, I'm not even sure I'd stock another bullet type. I think I'd simply buy a couple boxes of factory ammo when I wanted to hunt.

While they were not designed for hunting those who have used them report EXCELLENT results on game up to elk. I'd use it. A 139 gr in 26 caliber is a heavy for caliber bullet that will compare very closely to a 180 gr 30 caliber bullet for penetration.

Sometimes you have to think "outside the box". And enough hunters have done the field testing on these bullets to prove to me that they work on game. The 155's in 308 are proving to be a very good hunting bullet too. That doesn't mean all "target" bullets work well on game. The Sierra Match Kings have a reputation for poor performance. But the Scenar's and many others are proving to work well.

have no idea why, but for some reason I was thinking the 123 scenar.
