Saw it for the first time last night. Funny, of course, comments like "Last time I sweated this much, I got my wife pregnant". Anyway, they had this segment where they were chasing hogs with dogs. Now, they'd control the back feet like is usually done, but instead of sticking the pig, they taped its mouth and legs and drug it out of the woods alive. Biggest one they got was 150 lbs, but they're sayin' they catch bigger. I'm not sure how they'd drag a 400 lber out, but I guess if they cornered it in the right place, maybe.

Anyway, now, I don't argue that hogs are not dangerous, but it sorta debunks some of the killer hog stuff some seem to label them with. I mean, you wouldn't hunt BEAR that way, right? Let's just say, you wouldn't hunt bear that way ans survive the experience. :D

Now, I've stabbed a hog and spent a few nights chasing hogs with dogs. I don't know that I wanna pen a big one down and tape it's snout, though. :what: Easy way to get ripped open.

Another show, they penned down a 12 ft gator and taped its snout. Crazy people.

The first time I went hog hunting back in 1973, I was invited by a guy who had a swamp buggy. They turned 2 bulldogs loose and they caught a large sow about 180 lbs. The guy asked if I wanted to "take care" of the hog. I said, "SURE!" and pulled out my pistol. He yelled, "Put that thing away" and handed me a roll of electrician's tape. He told me to go in there and tape the hog's snout shut. I handed the tape back to him and said, "I'll watch."

One dog had the snout and the other had the butt. The hog was stretched out. The guy went in and taped its mouth shut and commanded me to tape up its feet. I followed instructions, sheepishly. They tied the hog to the back of the buggy and slaughtered it when we left later in the day. They told me it would have spoiled if they killed it right away. If they catch a small boar, they cut it, notch the ears and cut off part of the tail and turn it loose as a barrow. If they see one like that , they know it's prime and make sure to catch it, fatten it up, and butcher it.

Was wondering about that..

I'd been watching one of those hog hunting shows on A&E or History or whatever, and was curious why they were hobbling and tying them up. I figured they just didn't want to televise the killing of the hog, so they tied it and saved that step for later.
Your comment about the spoilage makes perfect sense though.

I've never understood why anyone ever thought hogs were all that dangerous, or black bear. Whitetail deer are more agressive and kill far more humans. Even a squirrel will bite if cornered, just like any other animal. That doesn't make them dangerous.

Dogs die all the time out my way. I have witnessed some pretty bad stuff that wouldnt make for good TV. I have stuck plenty over 200 lbs
