Guys. I have a two or three year old Bushnell laser range finder I bought at the local Sportsmans Warehouse. It's performance is disappointing. It won't range a prairie dog pile more than about 200 meters reliably.

I went back to the store to complain, and the guy told me that the laser emitters and receivers are the same on all of these products, and that I would not be happy with any of them.

So I gave up. For a couple of years.

Anybody have experience ranging prairie dog piles at distances over 200 meters with their laser range finders? How reliably does yours work? At what ranges?

Which one do you have?

Thanks.

p.s. I went so far shortly thereafter to get an artillery range finder, with the long stalk and lenses on either end? It is really good for getting ranges, but heavy as can be and awkward to use. Must be 3 feet long or more, and you have to use a bipod and all that. Just not suitable for this sort of thing.

There's a reason cheap ones are cheap. Try Swarovski......accurate to 1500 yards.

leica 1200 scan is good on dogs/towns for about 1000 yards.

bushnell 800 works well to about 650 yards on dogs.

the others i have used have been useless for dogs, but note the bushnell 400 works well to about 250 yards...

So these rangefinders will actually reflect off the dirt piles surrounding the burrows and give you a range?
