I’m picking up a Ruger No. 1 International in 30-06 in the morning. The wood does not have much figure, but the rifle is in perfect condition. This is the one rifle my dad always wanted, but would never spend the money on. With my son arriving in October, it seems like the perfect rifle on which to press the pause button for a while. I’m about to hop on Midway and order a Leupold VX-3i 2.5-8x36 and Leupold rings to mount on it. Should be a pretty handy combo when it is finished. I’ll post some pictures when I pick it up.

Nice. I have a No.1 RSI in 7x57. All I've done with it so far is get it sighted in with factory ammo. Already know it's hunting accurate; need to find out what it will do with hand loads.

So yes, we'll need pictures ... and a range report!

Wow! Your rifle is gorgeous. Much nicer stocks than mine.

I’d love a No. 1, hopefully in .300 H&H. it’s a “someday gun” for me for sure.

I’m glad you’re getting that someday gun for you, especially with your son soon to follow .

In my humble opinion, the Ruger adaptation of the Mannlicher rifle style makes for some of the most eye-appealing rifles ever made... so much so I have a red-pad 77 RSI in .243 with a Leupold 2x7x32 and a stainless 10/22 International. :)

The 20” barrel of the No. 1 is the perfect length for the forestock and it’s overall compact size makes for a classic stalking rifle to sling over your shoulder as you trek across the land glassing for game.

Excellent choice in rifle, caliber and scope. Congratulations!

Stay safe.

There's one of those for sale on Oahu right now, and it's hard for me to not make an effort to buy it.

I'd have to beg, borrow, and steal, but MAN do I want that gun.

The #1s a fantastic rifle to stop for a bit on. When my daughter was born (also in October) I quit buying guns for a year or two, can't actually remember what I bought before that pause, but it I KNOW it wasn't as classy as a #1.

Firstly, congratulations!

In a few years I’ll suggest a Savage Rascal.
Right now I suggest a bit of wax and some range time with the rifle while you have some!

There is something (at least in my simple mind) that enhances a hunt by using a single shot rifle - it feels quintessential. No.1’s are very nice rifles, internationals are gorgeous!

Same guy has a No. 1 in 300 H&H. I’ve bought a couple No. 1s from him including a 257 Roberts No. 1A. There’s just something all together cool about a Ruger No. 1. This makes six No. 1s for me and everyone of them is my favorite. Lol

Not close enough to the end of the year to make such a claim as the last rifle purchased for the year. I just purchased another Mossberg 380 .22 which I pick up Tuesday. My dealer had two the last time (Mossberg 22's) I was there. He wanted $500 for both. Seems high to me. One was in excellent condition and the other as much. Both were bolt guns with the full length stocks. Post WWII guns. Might pick them up too. And we are just in September. Still have three months to go.

@bannockburn, you're welcome! I think the No.1 RSI is a thing of beauty in any cartridge. Looking forward to seeing the OP's .30-06.

I was kind of keeping my eyes open for one in 6.5x55 as my "Some Day" gun. When I saw this one, though, it became a "Today" gun!

I most heartily concur! Would love a matching No.1 RSI in 6.5x55 to go with a 7x57!

An RSI in 6.5x55 is next on the list as well as an M77 RSI in 6.5x55 or 308.

I made the same promise last year in April. I go on streaks of buying and streaks of just shooting what I have more often.

Congrats on both achievements!

#1 RSI's could be the most beautiful production rifles in the history of rifle production. I blew the chance to own one in .243 a couple years ago. At the time I'd cooled off completely on centerfire rifles and was still very tempted. That one still haunts my dreams.

All those October birthdays (mine, my son's, sister, sister-in-law, handful of cousins included)
Dang those valentine's date nights.

A weekend at the Hardrock!

Headed to pick it up now. Really couldn’t turn it down. I haven’t found an RSI in great shape for less than $1300-$1700 anywhere. All of them on Gunbroker are north of $1500. This one has no box or rings, but the rifle is perfect save for one small ding in the buttstock and he’s asking $1K. Can’t turn it down.

LGS has a couple #1s in 450 BM and one in 6.5CM. Id rather have one in a more classy caliber. Or a caliber I already own, like the grendel or beowulf. One of the 450BMs is stainless with a grayish laminate stock. Neat, but no where near as elegant looking as blue and walnut.

My grandpa loaned me his 7x57 for a while. It was a beautiful rifle. My uncle got it and a 6mm Rem when he passed. I took the savage 99s in 22SHP and 300 Sav...

I keep threatening to build an “all-weather” No. 1 in stainless with fiberglass stocks. God willing, I’ll probably do that next year. Can’t decide on what chambering to go with. Leaning towards 308.

Gorgeous rifle. I'm not jealous really, but man...seeing that makes me really kick myself for not jumping on the .243 a couple years ago. For $750. With a scope. And the box. And original sales receipt.:cuss:
