When pardon me is part of your vocabulary, please say that again, and please speak up. When you have become a quasi lip reader you may finally come to the conclusion you can’t afford cheap hearing protection.

Too late. Trying to conserve what I have left. I use plugs under Peltor Tac Pros.

These have the highest NRR I have seen: http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/pro-ears-pro-mag-gold1.html

Well folks, I've done gone and bought some HL Impact Sports headset.

I’m thinking per haps too that some inside the ear plugs are as well a great idea. now that I’ve been reminded by some quite experienced gun folks in this regard, about it.
I can see why those Pro Ears are as pricey as they are! Wow. Too bad such items are beyond me to get… but Thanks much for the thoughtful input. I bet they’re super.

Now I'm back to getting bags and bullets for range and Home Defense uses.

I saw a Mil Spec plus bag from VooDoo which can carry a few guns including a Tact shotgun, $59.

Not saying it ain't possible, but one wonders why they have such a higher rating than 'bout anything else I've seen? Could somebody be fudging the numbers a bit?

I wouldn't think the electronics has much if anything to do with the NRR, as they all should clip the sound enough where I'd think the weak link would be the seals around the earcups.

If that's the case, wonder why their seals are so much better than anyone else's?

Because of the higher price, of course.

I've never tried them, but I know a couple guys who swear by them.

I've 2 sets of Peltors and 1 of HL and both work well for me with pistols but rifle I have to go back to ear plugs. Can't get a good cheek weld wearing ear muffs.

Seems to me one could pretty eaisly figure out if the sound was pemnetrating thru the lack of having a good seal around the ears, or the lack from the electronics, right?

Simply turn down the ambient volume, and listen, later on shoot some while paying close attention?

Having a gap in the dseal won't affect electronics, but will allow sound to penetrate with more ease, and should sound louder. This seal biz seems such an easy thing to determine.... and perhaps live with too.... or not.

For the eye protection deal.... I'd bet there are glasses with elastic bands which will more snugly fit to the head as well.... when I swam and rode scooters they called them goggles.

$3,600 Cierra J-13's..

Single action six, I had those but they functioned very sporadically so I tossed them

Fallout Mike..

It's too bad you were having problems with your HA's. Your BC-HIS would have been more than happy to replace them for another set. Why don't you retrieve them from the garbage can and return them. If you're like me at 70db down, you need all the help you can get.

Just so you all know..

Cierra J-13's are behind the ear Hearing Aids made by Starkey. In normal mode they're hearing aids, but when I switch them to program #3 they become (albeit), $3,600 hearing protectors.

I can literally stand next to someone with a big bore and have them touch one off and all I will hear is a slight "whoomp". I'll feel the concussion a bit, but not hear the sound.
