It can be a time consuming past time to try and wade through the amazing amount of information regarding defensive ammunition.
After a great deal of research and some extremely basic testing on my part I have decided to purchase some 9mm / .40S&W / .45ACP self defense ammunition.
However, I have run into a problem...

I would like to buy approximately 100 rounds each of:

Winchester Ranger T-Series
9mm+P 127 gr. RA9TA
9mm 147 gr. RA9T

.40S&W 165 gr. RA40TA
.40S&W 180 gr. RA40T

45ACP 230gr. RA45T
45ACP+P 230 gr. RA45TP

Federal Tactical Bonded
9mm 124 gr. LE9T1
9mm+P 135 gr. LE9T5

.40S&W 165 gr. LE40T3
.40S&W 180 gr. LE40T1

.45ACP+P 230 gr. LE45T1

I wish to do a little T&E out of my own handguns for reliability and accuracy and personal preference and then settle on one of each caliber for a carry choice.
The problem begins that I am not in Law Enforcement (I have never even played a cop on TV) but I am aware that it is NOT illegal to purchase and use this ammunition. Additionally, that there IS significant difference between the LEO offering and the standard ones to warrant the extra effort to find them.
I have found a site Responsible Shooter that offers the Winchester loads but they also require a copy of your state ID/ driver’s license (I don't really have a huge problem with that... but I don't see their point to this requirement, and I would prefer to just be able to purchase these as I would any other ammunition).

Are there any other retailers preferably online (or here in Colorado) that will sell these Winchester and Federal products to non LEO persons?

I appreciate any responses.
Thank you.
Cameron

My guess would be that the license is to establish your age.

Also, responsible shooter is out of stock of the RA9TA anyway.

Pro-Load has the Winchester, and at decent prices.

I think you do yourself a disservice by not including Gold Dot in your testing. Damn good design, and they don't play favorites. I had settled on the GD before I got on with my department, and they use GD as well.

Now, if something substantially better comes along...

Good on you for doing some testing. Let us know what you choose and why.

Contact Jerry at [email protected]... Great prices on Rangers and very good service. Quite a few people on SigForum & GlockTalk make use of him. I don't know if he advertises here.

He will require ID for age verification.

Deal with Dave at Responsible Shooter if you can't beat his price.
Almost everyone will require a liscense, don't worry about it. I have some of the old style Ranger 127+p+ if you like, but they are not the same as the current ammo.
