a fellow Roader recently posted forum about Norma vs LC brass and had some disturbing photos of bad brass and I am wondering if those problems exist in .223 brass. I've been separating it in my range brass pickups and using it for consistency in my ladder loads, have I been pushing my luck?

I have used Lake City brass for years and have had no issues. Can't speak on the Norma because I've never used it.

This is just my take, so your mileage may vary:

I'm assuming you are referring to the discussion regarding 7.62 brass. In 5.56, LC brass has a good reputation in my opinion. The presence of a crimped primer makes it easy to determine if it is once-fired. I'd speculate that most will have passed through an M4 (surplus) or AR-15 (range pickup). Remember, Lake City 5.56 ammo is also sold commercially and is available through Federal, Winchester, or whomever is running the plant at the time.

My understanding is that the issue with 7.62 is that once-fired government surplus brass is typically the output of an open-bolt machine-gun. This, apparently, is rough on the brass.
