As I am currently getting ready to start reloading for a 223 it was suggested on another forum that I sort my brass by headstamp because of the case volume difference between manufactures. One member even suggested that he sorts his LC brass by year stamp.

Does it really make that much of a difference? Should I sort by year stamp on the LC brass? Lastly I noticed that the LC brass date stamped 20 used two different crimps, does that make a difference also?

If you want to wring out maximum accuracy you should sort by head stamp. I do, and I tweak the OAL so they all shoot the same. Normally it only takes ±0.005" change.

If your only blasting it want matter. There are some years(older brass) where the volume is quite different.

After you resize and trim cases, put some on your powder scale. This can be an eye opener
