LCP vs Bodyguard .380

Seems to be several having firing pin issues on the BG380, at least there is a current thread going on over on the S&W forum about this

I have an LCP, BG and P3AT and I like them all. I like the trigger on the P3 the best. The bad news is "she who must be obeyed" does too. So I carry the BG. If you're into lasers on these pistols the BG is the best deal in terms of $$ since it comes integrated from the factory. I put a CT laser on swmbo's P3 and it activates easily with normal grip. Again pros and cons. Not sure I want / need the laser all the time and there is no off switch. The BG laser isn't nearly as quick to activate but does have an on/off switch. Our LCP is a nice carry and shooter but my least favorite and does not have a laser. The bottom line is any of the 3 are great little pistols for their intended purpose.

Hope this helps

Owned and sold both, but if I were to pick my favorite to shoot it would be the S&W Bodyguard.

I don't like the shape of the LCP it feels like the gun is going to slip out.

I agree the activation buttons on the BG380 suck and I wish they would just offer the gun without the laser module in front, it would make the gun smaller.

hey, ActionJax, hi from WI. got my c c permit a coupla weeks ago.

i never shot an LCP, but i didn't like the feel in my hands at the gun show. my buddy has a BG and i've shot it several times. it is dead nuts accurate once you get used to the long pull of the DA trigger. it's very well built, and i love the sights. i aim for small groups. the LCP sights might as well not be there. it's IMO a point and shoot weapon. seriously, i'm not one who would want to kill someone, even a perp, and if i hadn't already lost my cool because of a threat (and won't know until God forbid it actually happens) i would prefer to maim, not kill. life is too precious. c c is an awesome responsibility, and i would never hesitate to protect my or mine's lives, but i practice and practice with my xd 40, and maybe soon, the xd 'slim' when it comes in 40sw. so the fine sights of the BG are important IMO. i like the slide lock back on the last round fired too. and the gun just feels good in my big hand for a small weapon.

my vote's with the BG. to each his own.

i don't like the laser activation system on the bg. The gun itself is probably fine. On the other hand, my lcp has become one of my favorite carry guns. It is my primary in the summer and a bug in colder weather. I must admit that the addition of ct laser and pearce mag extensions made a big difference.

My wife has a Bodyguard and I find it extremely shootable. Surprisingly accurate and utterly reliable. I cannot comment on the LCP.

I picked the lcp over the bg simply because I was going for the most no-frills, lightest, most pocketable back up pistol. No laser, no bulk, just a cost effective and reliable edc for my back pocket to back up my glock or for super deep concealment.

The bg was a nice feeling gun. Just not what I was looking for.

The difference in size or bulk between the two is negligible. The BG however has vastly superior sights, a much strong design in the chamber area of the barrel, a much better trigger design with no "dead" trigger, and no "smileys" that could distort bullets or cause setback. The LCP is just fine within its limits but the limits of the BG are just simply higher.
I do like the option of a safety on the Bodyguard but I could care less about the laser. It actually quit working shortly after I bought it and I'm fine without it. It does make longer shots fun though.

I have the LCP and am satisfied with it but after shooting the Smith feel it's a better designed firearm. I am not talking about the laser, infact I see no need for one for my use. The sights are better on the Smith and the trigger gives you 2nd strike capibilities where the LCP needs to rack the slide should the chambered round not fire. The Smith would be pull the trigger again for another hammer fall to the primer. I have no plans to replace the Ruger, it's dependable and conceals so well, just think the Smith has a little edge over the LCP.

Really if a round doesn't fire when you pull the trigger you should clear that round anyways. But if you short stroke the trigger of the LCP it will decock and will NOT fire by pulling the trigger without racking the slide which would eject a good round and waste time you may not have.
The bodyguard's trigger is a true DAO and does not have that limitation.

I looked at both and went with the LCP. Reasons: I think lasers are silly and pointless; I like Ruger better then Smith; Every ounce counts to me; I think the LCP has been around long enough now to be a proven gun, but the Bodyguard is still pretty new.

I thought the same about the laser but it actually does work really well past 7 yards or so. I was able to get really easy hits at 25 yards with my BG with it. Within self defense distances I have much less use for it though.

LCP with Lasermax and Hogue Handall for LCP. That is a nice combination. I think it is very easy to shoot. It is my main gun when wearing summer type clothes but a back up when wearing more clothes.
