LCR broke!

Keep us updated DPris! Did you measure endshake, and/or the b/c gap before the test so you could compare it at the end?

I see Black Hills has that load listed as 1050 FPS, and I'm guessing that is out of a 4" barrel. So using the 50 FPS per inch of barrel rule that "should" make it 950 FPS out of the LCR. That is a pretty hot load.

5,000 rounds of that +P ammo is a fairly rough test, and if the gun still functions fine, I think Ruger has a winner. Thanks for your info.

B/C gap & other measurements.
I'll chronograph the BH load through the LCR as part of the final session. It's not the slightest bit fun to shoot. I got cocky & shot yesterday & today without a glove. Yesterday was fine, today it was 26 degrees & I guess the cold & dry skin caught up with me. Tore a new hole on my thumb. :)
That grip & I do not get along.

Apologize for the delay, weather & another deadline intervened. Looks like next weekend to finish up.

2000 dry-fires...my finger is sore thinking about doing that. I have a LCP too. About 50 rounds thru it. Maybe I should try the 2000 dri-fires.

I wouldn't.
When Ruger says dry-firing is OK, they mean occasionally, not incessantly.
Same with the LCP.

Yup, another pet peeve of mine. I don't understand why folks don't realize that dryfiring a few hundred times over the life of the gun is different from dryfiring a few hundred times each day.

One common gun must be dryfired to field strip--I've seen people try to use that fact used as proof that it's fine to dryfire the gun 25000+ times per year. Well maybe it is fine and maybe it's not fine, but the fact that you have to dryfire to field strip (something that you might do a few hundred times in the life of the gun) is absolutely not proof that you can dryfire tens of thousands of times per year with no expectation of ill-effects.

It reminds me of an old Dilbert cartoon. Dilbert asks Dogbert if it is wrong to enjoy the good feeling that he gets when he puts an ear swab in his ear or if he can enjoy it without guilt. Dogbert thinks awhile and then replies that he thinks that Dilbert doesn't need to feel guilty about it. To which Dilbert replies: "Great! I've already used a whole box of them today."

Done.
Slightly under 5300 rounds.
Approx 5100 were +P.

Measurable frame stretch, barrel/cylinder gap grew, all still functional, B/C gap still within acceptable standards, forcing cone still OK.
Trigger pull lightened slightly.

Ran out of time on the project & was not able to chronograph.

Only malfunctions were due to the glove I wore for parts of the testing that caused shortstroking on the trigger pull.
