so I bought 100 rounds of Federal Hydro Shok ammo for my Bersa 380. Its my high conceal/glovebox gun and wanted to have some extra punch for whatever. So...to be sure I have no issues, I shot 40 or so rounds through it without issue.

Until I went to clean the gun. The inside looked like someone shaved lead to dust and coated the feedramp, barrel and interior. NOT pleasant to clean.

Is this common ? I have never run the stuff through my 9mm's (and don't intend to) so its my first experience with it. Is it brand related or do all defense rounds do this ? Thanks

Kinda difficult for a jacket bullet to leave lead deposits.;) (since the lead never touches your bore)

What you are seeing isn't lead, but powder residue.

I would agree

But then the powder must be very different because my FMJ's don't leave that kind of visible grey powder. I have shot 100's through the Bersa, always clean after a shoot and never saw this before..

Okay...as long as its no issue...:D

I would not worry about it at all. Just run a wet patch through it. Let it sit for a few minutes and run a dry patch through it. I can almost guarantee that you will see a shiny barrel.

Some powders just leave a residue behind. I would doubt that you would use this ammo regularly for plinking anyway. It is what I carry in my Bersa and trust it as much as any .380 ammo.

Thanks Schwing...

Yeah, the hydro shok is for defense rounds I keep in the gun (now). So I guess if I practice with these occasionally, just make sure I clean as usual after shooting...

Sorry ..HYDRA SHOK

And yes, could have been the nickel casings...I am so obsessed with strip and clean, I would have noticed that color residue before...thanks !
