I've been practicing my handgun shooting skills lately and have been putting a fair few rounds through my CZ 75 P-01. I figured Czech ammo would be a good bet for a Czech gun, so I bought (a while ago) 1000 rounds of Sellier & Bellot 31045 115 gr. FMJ. The ammo has been fine so far, but I've got the P-01 field stripped in front of me and the barrel appears to have a large amount of fouling. It looks somewhat like copper fouling, but it's more yellowish. I assume this is to be expected as these rounds have a brass jacket. S&B's website calls it CuZn30.

The problem is, I cannot get it out. In the past I've been able to remove copper fouling with a good hour or two Hoppe's soak, but this stuff has had a wet flannel patch down the bore for about 4 hours now and it doesn't want to budge. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to let it sit overnight? I need to clean my HD pistol as well, but I hate to take it down until I can replace it with the CZ. I guess I could always dig out the short barrel for the pump-gun...

I'm a little bit discouraged by this problem. I was really liking the ammo otherwise (relatively accurate & consistent, clean), and S&B is consistently one of the cheapest around.

Well, just get a bore cleaner made for removing copper deposits. Outers Copper Kleenz, Remington 40-X, Barnes CR-10 (my favorite) or any other copper fouling cleaner.

All jackets are a copper alloy. The 'golden' ones like S&B, Montana Gold, Armscor Premium, PMC premium, have more zinc in them. The copper bore cleaners work well on all of them. If you use a brass rod, the copper cleaner will slightly disolve the rod; no big deal, but your patches may always come out bluish.

remmington bonded golden sabers are brass jacketed. I have thought about fouling but i never see any in my bore.

Here is a product I use. Spray the foam in and let it sit overnight and it will remove any copper . If it is fouled real bad you may have to do it several times. No brushing . I use it in my long range rifles as any time you use a brush you will slowly distort the finish of the rifling and affect accuracy.
Read all of his info and call him if you have questions.
Great Stuff

Well, an overnight soak with Hoppe's didn't make much difference. I wouldn't worry about it so much , but the inside of the barrel looks like a gravel road. I guess I'll have to try something stronger. I appreciate the suggestions for products here. I'm just amazed as I've never seen fouling this stubborn.

I started using Hoppes bore gel when I noticed junk building up on the edge between the grooves and lands.

You put the gel on a bore brush, run it through the barell, let it sit for 15 minutes and then run patches through it. The stuff is amazing.
