One of my brothers in law just got his first gun, a Ruger SR9c. He's shot with me a couple times before, but is, for all intents and purposes, completely new to firearms.

He asked me to point him to a resource for learning to use the gun safely and effectively. I encouraged him to take a training class, but short of that, is there any YouTube series or online resource you guys know of that can at least give him the bare essentials? He lives in Arizona, so I can't take him to a range for one-on-one guidance, and he's a college student so his budget for training is severely limited. Took him the better part of a year to put that money for the gun aside. He bought the gun primarily for HD and concealed carry.

He's in north Phoenix. I sent him links to several classes, and a selection of Paul Gomez' videos. Hopefully he takes a class...

what japles said. ben avery shooting facility has a beginner shooting class he should attend. ben avery is just up interstate 17 at exit 223. maybe 20 miles from north phoenix.

also, the jerry miculek youtube video "how to shoot a pistol" should help.

Yep - Ben Avery is where we always went to shoot. Lived just a few mins away from it before I moved up to WA.

Anyway, I sent him links to classes at Shooter's World in Glendale, and a couple different guys teaching NRA Basic Pistol courses. He's got the resources he needs and it's now up to him to follow through. Thanks for the help, guys.
