I'd like to get a removable leather pad thingie. My fingers are kinda sore from putting a few hundred rounds through a lever gun last night. I have a few levers, and wouldn't want to leave leather on blued steel anyway, so I don't just want to wrap it with a leather strap. I'd like to get one that can be slipped on and off easily.

I've seen them, but I haven't been able to find one, maybe because I don't know what to call it when I try to do a search.

Anyone have a source?

(I haven't done leather work myself; I could learn, but I figure the tools would cost me more than this thing. :) )

Buy a pair of leather gloves, the cheap ones at Walmart. Cut off one of the fingers, slice it lengthwise along a seam. Punch some holes, and laced it on and off.

Better yet, just cut the trigger finger off and wear them when shooting extended periods, that's what I do.

What you are looking for is used by cowboy shooters. Unfortunately, I can't find a reference right off the bat for you.

Do you know what said thingie is called?:)

I know that the Chinese lever shotguns come with them, but I haven't found someone who just sells them.

People like to shoot lever guns; I don't mind sharing. tkendrick is right; I can wear real or homebrewed shooting gloves, but I'd love to have something that stays with the guns if I pass them around.

Maybe I will have to make one.

Very cool!

Thanks all.

I think I'll make the one on Eight Bits' site. Maybe one with and one without the heavy-recoil knuckle guard. Looks easy enough to do with minimal tools.

I suggest going to a shoe repair shop, showing them that thing and asking what it would cost for them to make up a few dozen. Then bring them back here and we'll all buy them from you!

Calluses are your friends.

Yeah, but I can't think of anything that puts some solid calluses on the tops of your fingers, forward of the large knuckles...

Playing bloody knuckles with a girl I knew in high school. I don't know which was harder, her head or her hands.

Go to wally world ,over in the crafts section they have leather thongs in 12 ft packs even comes in colors tan ,brown, black.

Then wrap the bottom portion. You can lay a double loop along the lever and start wrapping from the other end, and when your finished push the tag end through the loop that you formed when starting, then give the oppisite end a tug and it will pull the tag end under the wrap, giving it that finished look!

If you aren't going for historical realism, wrapping with a single layer of paracord (leave the center strands in) works well.

I've done that with my cowpunk assault rifle. It keeps bruises to a minimum when enthusiastically cycling the action.

I was going to say the very thing.
Won't bother the bluing and ads just a little comfort.
Though I have to admit the one with the fringe that rcmodel linked to is pretty cool.

Yeah, I have a roll of fuse cord. Maybe I should use that...

Seriously, though, I'd like something removable, and the leather project above looked neat. I think I'll make one and see.:)
