I sent my Leatherman Sideclip in for repairs a couple weeks ago. The other day, UPS guy shows up with a little package for me from Leatherman.
When I opened it up, I could barely believe what I was holding.
My Leatherman looked brand new. It was so shiny that the reflection of the sun on it hurt my eyes.
Upon closer inspection, I saw that my initials that I had scratched on had been polished off.
Scrap that. They had simply sent me a brand new tool. Just for a broken can opener.
I'm not going to complain about that!
Only wanted to share this because of the "favorite multi tool" thread last week.
Leatherman is a great company IMHO.

My leatherman has seen better days, but I hate to send it back because I don't have another one in the stable. I don't know if I could be away from my LM for even a few days.

I know what you mean. I found a PST at Wal-Mart for $35 the day after I sent mine in and I bought it. I couldn't be without a Leatherman. Those people are real tricky. They got us hooked.:scrutiny:

Also, Leatherman tools are plenty tough for anything I can do with them. I was using mine to adjust the sights on a gun once, and I left it on the hood of my truck. When I drove off, I accidentally ran over it. I went back and found it driven down in the snow and mud, completely unharmed. I did not, however, share that with them when I sent it in for warranty work. It was completely uninvolved from breaking the can opener, but still...

I really like my Leathermen (Leathermans?). They've handled some tough use and always done the job. So, I want to like the company, and I'm glad to hear they treated you right.

i sent them that with a note explaining that the blade broke cutting shingles and the pliers had busted while wrenching a rusted bolt on my car. two weeks later the UPS guy dropped me off a brand new wave.

Yep, when I snapped one blade on my 5 year old Wave recenlty, I had my replacement (brand new one I think) in about a week.

I for one won't be buying Leatherman products. I had planned to buy one soon but that plan has been scratched. SOG makes a great product that I can enjoy owning.

Jac, gotta agree with you, sadly. I was all set to run out and buy that new titanium Leatherman, but their position in support of Kerry has removed them from my toolbox.

It's amazing how companies look at such a small picture when they make a decision like this. They never looked in to why Bush allegedly made these cuts, just that he did, alledgedly, and that's all there is to that.

I'm looking into SOG. Gerber sucks, imho, as I've never been able to get an edge on any of their knives.

Woe is me.

Check out the Victorinox (Swiss Army) brand multi-tools. Mine has served me very well so far.

Roger that. Reading that just made me sick. I will keep the ones I have, but I won't be supporting his business anymore.

Sent them a letter of my discontent. Will discontinue use of my Wave once it craps out and will never buy one of their products again. Companies need to learn to do what they do best...make goods, not give out corporate endorsements for communist political candidates. They have a right to speak their mine, I have a right to boycott their products.

EDIT:
Dear Sir or Madam:

I assure you I have personally read your e-mail. However, due to the
volume of messages received, I cannot give a personalized response to
each to you.

However, here in a nutshell is a general response:

Because I publicly stated how I am going to cast my vote, almost all of
you have threatened a boycott against my company.

So be it.

I took a position, and now I will accept the consequences.

I am still going to do my absolute best to make great tools and hope
that you and all Americans, of every political affiliation, will find
them of value. If not today, someday.

Tim Leatherman
President
Leatherman Tool Group, Inc.

I'll buy my next Leatherman tool when I run out to buy my next Dixie Chicks CD. This is America and they have the right to say what they want or endorse who they want. This is America and I have the right to try to keep my dollars from causes that I am opposed to.

I don't understand why people feel compelled to introduce their political views when we are paying them to provide a service or product. If I go to a concert and shell out $75 or $100 to hear someone sing...then sing damn it, that's the service that I am paying you to provide. I don't have any more interest in what some guitar player thinks about politics than I do the guy that I'm paying to paint my house or mow my lawn. If you want to be political, play at a rally with free admission. I really don't understand how a skill at making and marketing pocket knives or surfboards gives you an insight greater than we the unwashed hicks that have made you successful. Rant off.
