lee 45 colt dies came in today

well I got in my lee 45 colt carbide dies in this morning and i am glad i ordered these from midwayusa.com. been using the lee kit you use a plastic mallet with and that also made very nice ammo but after much pounding with the weighted mallet i was glad i got in the dies! so using the new dies this morning was refreshing! and these made very nice crimps and so very happy with the new dies!

Yes!

Once you use Any brand of Real dies, it is hard to go back to using a hammer and a fancy finished pipe.

I have a handful of different company's dies but most of my handgun dies are Lee carbide dies. They just plain make good ammo at a very fair price...

I'm a big fan of Lee carbide dies also, they just make sense. The powder though die is great, adjust seating depth without needing a wrench, and they cost less than RCBS. Gotta love it.

But for my bottle neck stuff I like RCBS.

I use mine in a single stage press and simply could not be more satisfied with my Lee four-die sets, especially when finishing up with a roll crimp on the revolver cartridges for .38 spl. / .357 magnum, .44 magnum, and .45 Colt..

I left that part out, I also use mostly RCBS for bottleneck rifle cartridges.

I have a nice set of Hornady New Dimension 45-70 dies I bought at an auction way before I had a 45-70 that are very nice. I'm not sure if it's because the 45-70 is a straight walled cartridge or if it's the dies but those dies have me thinking of buying Hornady next time I need a set of rifle dies.

You're going to love those dies compared to the Lee Loader kit. Much easier and faster for pistol loads. I've used Lee dies for pistol and rifle for over 30 years and they have always done their job. Never felt the need to spend a lot more money for dies that do the same thing.

BTW, I keep Lee Loaders for all my bolt action and single shot rifle calibers. I seldom reload huge numbers of those cartridges so speed isn't a factor and the Lee kits are convenient when working up new loads. Like me, they are "ancient stuff" but still function.

For lead bullets (oversized) I abandoned my Lee dies, trying others but winding up with RCBS COWBOY in any caliber available. Regardless, the FCD does not get used, opting for Redding Profile Crimp Die.

The Hornady COWBOY dies seem to be nothing but a bigger expander ball, which then sticks in a standard sizing diameter.

Another vote for Lee dies. After buying a different brand one time I decided that I will never stray from lee dies again. The seating depth adjustment is one of my favorite features. That and the price. I don't believe there are any better and certainly none more affordable.

All of my dies are Lee carbide pistol dies. Never saw the need to try anything else.

I'm very pleased with them and like I said, I might buy more the next die set I need. That said I completely forgot to buy the Hornady dies when I bought for the 303 British a few weeks back and bought RCBS as a reflex. That would have been the perfect test IMO and if I didn't like them as much as the RCBS dies, no harm done since I won't be loading all that much 303 British ammo.
