I was priming small primers on the lee auto prime II and kept crushing the primers. I read somewhere that you can take a RCBS APS strip and fill the “gap” for the small primer rod in the shellholder. Which strip is that? Is it the small primers strip or large primer strip? I don’t have that on hand so I don’t know. If anyone knows do let me know. Primers are precious right now....

I recently acquired a Auto Prime II to use on my single stage press for priming 223 as I am processing this in steps. I have been sizing and trimming and then running it thru the corn cob. I am then loading this stuff on a 3 hole Lee turret and was hoping this would be a quicker priming solution. I was getting a lot of sideways primers so now I raise the ram, inspect that the primer is flat and then load the case into the shell holder.

I have not heard of this "fix" with the RCBS primer strips. Though I would be interested to hear of it.

The Lee auto prime II is great and fast. For the larg primers it’s not an issue and no “slop” when priming the large primers. For the small primers it becomes an issue due to the hole of the shellholders. It is way too large and causes the primers to slop around as you raise the ram. The RCBS APS strip comes into play, by “filling” the “gap” for the small primers so that way it cause the small primers to slop around as you raise the ram.

I picked up this Auto Prime II because I have been using this same setup for years on my Pro1000 and no where near as many jacked up primers on the Pro1000... I believe most of my problems are coming from using LC brass and reamed primer pockets.

If you want to switch to another system, go wit h RCBS automatic priming tool. And also get the Frankford arsenal Vibra Prime. I had stubborn pockets here and there I swaged with the RCBS swager, shoulda went with Dillion or CH4D. The RCBS auto primer gives you that extra push... no danger.... at all. If you don't feel comfortable get a Dillion swager first and see how your Lee system works then.
