Lee auto prime

Is there a secret to getting the auto prime system to work with a Lee turret? After decapping I bring the ram down just a little and then try to prime. Either the auto prime doesn't release the primer or the primer falls to the floor. There is such much play between the priming arm or the auto prime at this rate I'll be lucky to load 40 bullets a hour let alone 200. If any suggestions please let me hear them. Or I may be looking for a rcbs hand primer. Thanks

Do you mean the auto prime, which is designed to load off the press? Or do you mean the safety prime, which is designed to work on the press? Also, which press do you have? The cast iron or aluminum version?

mine does not work correct, it seats the primers crooked, so I bought a lee auto prime and no more problems.

I've never had a problem with my safety prime. Make sure you have the correct size cup for the primer you are using. When you get the arm under the case and feel it touch the case you have to give it a pretty good push to seat the primer. Is this the one you are having trouble with?

Lee Primer

I just (an hour ago) installed the Safety Prime on my Turrret press. I worked with it for a while to get the feel for it. I have the ram all the way up, push the trigger and it loads a primer about seventy-five percent of the time! Even that's better than I can do with the hand primer. Try adusting the angle of the bracket to help line the trigger up to the finger "thingy" (sorry). It seems to take a certain touch to get it to work correctly. I was having satisfactory success after ten of fifteen minutes of adjusting both the primer and my technique. Try pressing the trigger with the ram all the way up. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses I do have the safty prime got my lee turret reloading kit from Kempf gun shop with the added upgrades. The you tube video was handy looks like I just have to keep playing with it and remember this isn't a progressive press. Sometimes we can be a little impatient. Thanks again for the responses, the forum has been a great tool you guys really do help with the posts. Happy loading

I find that pressing forward and down on the priming button works the best. Be firm but not agressive. Works 99% for me.

My problem was the trigger pulling the primer out of the cup when it was pulling away from the press. Now I grab it with my thumb and index finger and click the primer into the cup, then lift it a little to pull it away. It's not 100% but almost. It also hasn't slowed me down because I am still loading 200 RPH. You just need to play with it a little to find out what works for you. Hope this helps.

I was having the same problem as Rusty with mine, added a flat washer for a 1/4" bolt on top of the spacer. Then put the Safety Prime mount back on and adjusted it to position the primer in the cup. This helped with the primer drag and also made the release easier.

I use a LSP with a 4hole turret press and the only probs I have with it is that it will not load the last couple primers. I usually load those by hand. I also have no problems loading 100 small pistol primers into the tray except that it needs a little shake here and there to get the chute to fill.
