Plan A: I bought a Redding 3 Powder Measure a while back used. If I get a Lee Cast Turret Press is there any way to mount the Redding #3 and automate the Powder drop on the Lee Turret? If so what will I need to accomplish that?

Plan B: I also have access to a old Lyman 55 if the Redding will not work but I would prefer to use the Redding. I am almost positive that Lyman makes an adaptor that will allow the 55 to mount on the Lee (but I don't think it will work on the Redding) but I am not sure it will permit autodrop. Is there any way to get the autodrop with the Lyman

Plan C: Okay if I cannot do either of those I would appreciate some input about what you guys are doing; e.g. not mouting a powder measurer on the turret, mounting it and manually dropping the powder, or using the Lee system.

Thanks for the input.

The Lee Pro Autodisk works extremely well, and only costs about $30. And, it's made for the press.

You may have to adapt the Redding measure a bit, but you can use a Hornady case activated powder drop or the RCBS equivalent underneath the Redding measure to achieve excellent powder drops.

I didn't use the Hornady measure, I used an RCBS Uniflow powder measure and a Hornady case activated powder drop with great success. It was tall enough to clear the safety prime, though I did have to be careful how I arranged the working mechanics of the case activated powder drop.

Dave

Dave do you use that for a single caliber on the turret or do you move it to other turrets and load pistol and rifle with it?

I only use it to load rifle calibers where I'm using a extruded powder that doesn't meter well through the Lee Pro Auto Disk. You can buy "bases," which are basically dies, for the Hornady case activated powder drop. I'm not sure about the RCBS, but I suspect you can buy bases for it as well.

The Hornady ones, last time I bought them (over a year ago) ran around $11.00 to $15.00 apiece for just the die base. I bought two or three then and that's been enough for most rifle calibers I load on the Classic Turret.

I should not that I don't use it for EVERY rifle caliber I own. Mostly larger cases with powders that don't meter well in the Lee. For smaller rifle and pistol cases as well as powders that meter well with the Lee, I use the rifle powder die and/or the Lee powder through expanding die along with the Lee Pro Auto disk.

I've gradually added two or three powder measures, since they're so inexpensive and have plans of buying one for each turret I own excepting those calibers I use the Uniflow measure for. In those cases, I'll simply get the Hornady CAPD base.

Dave

Dave, the pics in the old thread don't work anymore and I'd sure like to see the setup if you get a chance to get them up again. Thanks!

+1 for Dave's pics

I'd like to see the pics too. I want to set up a Uniflo on a Lee turret also. The pics will be a great help.

Thanks in advance Dave.

Thanks for the Pics

Got the pictures. Copied them and filed them under a "Dave the magic Reloader" folder. I will study them when I set up the Uniflow on the Lee after I get back from vacation.

This should set me up to load 30-06 and .308 on the Lee.

You have been a big help to me in choosing equipment and setting it up. I appreciate it.:):)
