Hi

Does it come with the new safety prime ?
Saw Midway got them couldn't tell if they
come with them or not .

Thanks

Ny understanding is that they do. I just picked up a Classic 4 hole press from natchez for Christmas but it did not. I think as of this month though, they were shipping the new ones.

According to the description at Midway, they do. Here is a quote from the product description:

"This press features the same solid steel linkage of the Classic Cast Press in addition to Lee's Lever Primer System (LPS) and Lee Safety Prime tool."

I ordered one last night. It looks like a good way to speed up pistol and revolver loading without dropping $ 300.00 - 500.00 on a progressive.

I don't think it comes with the Safety Prime system. None of the pictures I've seen show the Safety Prime system attached. The Lee Precision page says it USES the SP system, not that it includes it.

If you look here, you'll see that the Classic Cast Turret press is shown without the SP. The separate SP section shows it attached to the older Turret Press.

I'd buy it even if it doesn't include the SP system. If the SP is included, that's just a bonus to me. :)

45LC turret press

I recently bought a Lee press...sure speeds up the reloading process...getting about 100 - 125 / hr

I just bought a new 3 hole and 4 hole press yesterday and both of them came with the adapter for the safety prime system to attach it to the press. You must buy the primer system though.

portable turret press

just put my new Lee 3 hole turret press on a 2x6x15"...cut a 2" hole on top / 1.25" on bottom below priming section...added a 1.25" plastic tubing and put a cork on the bottom...now I can take my press anywhere and attach it with a C-clamp...and my primers are all in the tube....

Update kit

Sounds as if it is included. The Lee Classic Turret Press ad in the Mar/Apr Am Handgunner pg.103 has a caption on the bottom that reads:
"Attention pre-2006 Turret Press Owners
Update your presswith the new LPS and Lee Safety Prime. Order update kit#90042. Includes everything for large and small primers."

Thanks Everyone ,
You are right they don't come with the safety prime .
I got my press from Midway today .
Like someone posted the way thier website read it came with it .
Oh well I should have called or e-maliled first and asked .

Thanks again , Bill

Yep, it doesn't come with the safety prime system, but it's worth the money. Getting a box done in 10 minutes isn't a real problem at all. Realisticly, I would say that after re-filling the primer tray now and then and taking your time, 200 rounds an hour is no problem. I own a progressive, but in truth, the ability to load four to six boxes an hour with the turret press more than meets my shooting demands.

Doesn't come with a bullet swaging auto eject system like this one either.

Jim

Does the Classic still have the poly indexing clamp and insert? Looks like it on the photo?

I like my old Lee turret fine, but this part should have been improved.

It is a plastic part but not the same thing that the 3 hole presses have. I've found the four hole indexing to be completely reliable. The timing is in the twist of the index rod and there is no adjustment or fine tuning for the part that turns the index rod. You can take it out and put it back in and it still indexes perfectly. I haven't changed mine yet and I'm well over 15,000 rounds. I think it's a great improvement over the three hole indexing system.

Yes, it has the plastic clamp and insert. I had to change to a new one after about 2000 rounds, ordered 3 new clamps and 10 inserts.

Are you sure you are talking about the 4 hole press - the Classic Turret has a cast iron "bump" at the bottom preventing you from damaging the clamp at all. I've never worn out an insert because they are non-adjustable and reside inside the clamp.

I've heard of people wearing out the white insert on the 3 hole, but never the the 4 hole.

Here is the 4 hole clamp and ratchet.

They are not idiot proof and will break. The ratchet square is only $.25 to replace, but I would vote for making it idiotproof.

An idiot:D broke mine while trying (but failing) to follow the directions for adjusting the indexer.

You're right, that is a 4 hole clamp and ratchet. However, I'm just very surprised because there is no "adjustment" to it. Once in a while, if a person gets a press and it doesn't index right, there is one quick adjustment to the nut on top of the index rod, but it's a one time deal. The only other thing I've heard of on the non-classic style turret press is a person using such strong pressure on the downstroke of the ram that they peeled the clamp off, however on the Classic Turret, this has been fixed. A "bump" that is cast into the base causes the primer arm to bottom out on it, the top of the primer arm is what the shell holder "bottoms" out on which results in the clamp never reaching the base. Picture is worth a thousand words -
