I am considering a Lee Classic Loader for some periodic .45-70 reloading. Through previous investigation, I've decided I will need to be sure to use some sort of flaring tool, as I will be loading exclusively lead. But my next question has to do with crimping.

I will be loading for a single shot rifle, and do not intend to apply a real crimp. However, I do want to be sure I completely and consistently remove the bell from the mouth, and figure that this may require a very subtle use of the crimping method (similar to what I've been doing in my reloading press with an extremely subtle roll crimp).

Since I've still not used a Lee Classic Loader, can anyone comment on how to attain a "consistent" crimp with the Lee Classic Loader? Is there any way by which to really adjust the level of crimp, or is it basically just left up to feel?

Thanks.

Not sure about all LCLs, but for my .303 I just flip it around and tap the base of the round a bit. Nothing really adjustable. You should try to load a few without any belling or crimping and see what you get. You might not need to do anything more than the standard instructions.
