Lee enfield headspace

2's and 3's are hard to find for sure. Mine came with a 0, but I've seen rifles with 2's and 3's.

You might get lucky and find one on ebay. I think there are a lot of parts in the UK.

It's a #1 bolt head - receiver #, the # on the "ring" and the #'s on the bolt handle all match. I scoured every source I can find for bolt heads - can't believe that with the millions of #4 rifles in existence, that bolt heads are that scarce. Must be gold.
Can you find someone who can run some head space gauges in your rifle? Determine what your head space is and the size of the bolt head(not the number) Then you well know what size head you need to find. I may be able to help with a new bolt head. You ever get to PDX?

Enfield heads pace issue due to machine gun ammo

I took that #4 to a gunsmith to have it checked out. Gave him one of the cases damaged when I fired it. Case is headstamped "A81 7.7 R1,M3Z. He says head space checked ok and my problem was due to this being machine gun ammo. Could that be right?

Something else to consider ...

yakimaman .........

If the headspace for your chamber (and your ammo) is correct at the rim, you need to consider something else that's just as important. Measure the chamber clearance at the shoulder that your loads have in your chamber. If your fired cases have stretched more than a few thousandths, they can crack and separate.

Read the homepage of my website, and you'll see how to measure this clearance at the shoulder that YOUR handloads will have in YOUR particular chamber.
