Got me thinking if you were going to build a spares package for your no 5 4m1 or 2 or 1m3

what would it include ?

Figure while parts are still around shat would be good to have on hand in case if failures

I figure sear spring. Extractor extractor spring and firing pin

?????

You could try AlumaHyde II, as when it cures out, is resembles Suncorite. Costs less too. I have used Aluma Hyde II myself.

A spare striker and striker spring, extractor and spring. One or two bolt heads that measure longer than what you have on the rifle. You can't go just by the bolt # as there is considerable difference in actual lengths.

Chart of measured bolt heads.

What's the paint The paint the used on the 4 m ii's??

Is there an equivalent by today's standards?

What would u use if u were going to touch one up?

The Brits used a very hard enamel paint called Suncorite. It is very toxic and very hard to find in the states. BDL does offer a re-coating service with Suncorite. Any of the better fire arm paints on the market today well give you a similar finish. The better ones are a bake on but some of the air dry can be very hard surface to resist scratching. They are normally applied with an air brush.

There is a coating they use today called NP3 I think. Goes on 3~4 microns thick I would consider I had a reason but i don't like to mess with rifles much. I leave them as I find them.

the 303 british cartridge is under rated, very accurate and most of the rifles are very serviceable.
Obviously there are a lot of guys that collect the different enfield rifles. I have a Canadian 303 match rifle with gold trigger. On the range shooting 30 caliber matches it will perform just as well as the 30-06 Springfields, M1's and M14's. My son has it now.
One company in Arizonia was buying enfields, putting on nylon sporter stocks and could not keep them in stock.

1944 No 4 with bayonet and bandolier. Poor lighting made the butt look darker than it is. In reality it matches the forearm.

Here's a shot of mine in action. It's a Long Branch No 4 Mk 1* and it's a good shooter :)

The rifle that has FAZ on the serial #, that is a rifle made in the Fazackerly armory, just out side of Liverpool, my home City in England.

In entering the Royal Corp. of Signals in 1954, National Service, two years, I was issued a Canadian made Enfield, new, no one else wanted it, it was all gunked up, I took it, had the storekeeper help me to clean it, a one inch group at 50 yds! Right to point of aim, amazing. I had shot prior to being called up.

Made in Long Branch, Mississauga, Ontario.

Issued with a spike bayonet! I was some upset when I saw that spike! "We don't get bullets"? said I?

If a bolt head one day leaks gas, how does a buyer decide whether a given head is in much better shape, if a replacement part is only described by a # such as 0, 1 etc?

Look at the bolt head chart in post #32. It shows you can have a higher bolt number but actually have a shorter bolt. That is why you need to measure the bolt head you have then find a bolt head that is longer. You can't go by head # alone.

If your going to have several LE's it's a good idea to have some spare bolt heads on hand of different sizes. You used to be able to find heads at the gun shows and on-line but the #2 and #3 heads have dried up and are becoming scarce. Having a spare bolt or two is not a bad idea either.

If your leaking gas you have other problems not head space.
