Will someone be so kind to tell me if the base of the Lee Load All 2 shot shell loading press is metal or plastic?
Thanks very much.

I have one of these contraptions. When I bought it mail order it arrived with a broken base. Rather than return it I just glued it back with epoxy. It makes ammo but I really don't enjoy using it. A MEC is in my near future shopping plans.

A used MEC Jr is far and away so much better than any Lee Load-All - and I started WAY back before Al invented the Internet with that Lee. After a few frustrating months, I moved on MECs; better built, better results, a lot less hassle.

Actually, that noted liberal activist Newt Gingrich said that if anyone in Congress was entitled to claim the title "Father of the Internet" it would be Al Gore.

Of the 350,000 or so rounds of shotgun ammo I have fired in the last ~30 years or so, more than half was my reloads. MECs, Spolar, Ponsness-Warren, and a few others can handle that' the Lee won't. If all you want to do is load a few boxes of special hunting ammo every year, go with the Lee (you'll still need a good scale); if you shoot a lot like I do, then get something better. The cost difference will be easily made up in short order

If your loading more than just a box here and there. I’d spring for the Mec sizemaster. I’ve got a couple 600 jr’s and a sizemaster. And you really need to size the head if your gonna load anything hot or try to shoot them until they are dead.

Lee, few boxes here and there.
Mec 600, lots of boxes with once fired hulls.
Sizemaster. Lots of boxes with hulls until hulls are truly spent.

I use/have used MEC Jrs and that ring resizes the base; I have also used their 9000 and still use a Grabber. If one os loading a lot, either the manual-indexing Grabber or the auto-indexing 9000 will help speed up production

I had a Loadall given to me. I used it some and found a used ME C600. Gave the Lee away.;) It works but I could see me wearing it out in short order. Also Lee does not make it in the size I load most, .410 (hunting ammo). These days 12 and 20 skeet/target is cheaper to buy in bulk on sale.

I load my hunting shells on LoadAll II. It's fine for that and I kill birds with those shells, but I wouldn't want to load the number of shells you need for competition with it.

I've got one I bought in 1982. It has a metal base. I also have a 20ga I bought about 1998, its plastic. Both still work fine.
However, I don't shoot a high volume of shells. Mostly slug, buckshot, or turkey type loads that otherwise are $$$.
I actually shoot more .410 than anything else and savings reloading are greatest with the .410.
