SSN Vet, as I'm thinking about taking the plunge to reloading, I'm very interested in how things go for you.

Thanks for sharing.

Just got my new Cabelas 2007 Reloading Catalog today. They offer the Classic Cast Turret in a package which includes the primer system, powder measure with multiple disks, powder riser, and a scale for $150. It would probably be a good deal if they wouldn't have thrown in the powder measure which many of us don't need.:(

Actually, that powder measure, along with Lee dies, makes that press great for reloading fast. One heckuva deal. It's a great little measure in my experience with it. Now the scale, on the other hand, isn't too great, but is very accurate.
Your right. I meant to say the scale. Brain fart is guess Dave.:D

this is a smokin' deal!!!

wish I had known about it last week......I just spent $173 for the same list of items from F & M.......and they were lower than all the others at the time.

"Boo Hoo" for me.....

anyone sitting on the fence has a good reason to squeeze the trigger now.

OBTW....the Midway kit is the older Lee Turret press......not the cast one......has the regular Auto-disk (ntot he Pro) and doesn't include the rifle charging die or the auto disk riser....that's still a cheap kit for getting into re-loading though.

That Midway kit uses the older Auto Disk powder measure. Me personally, I wouldn't buy one just because of the screws they use in holding the hopper on. Be careful when you look at kits to see what you're getting. With the Midway kit, you're comparing apples to oranges with the Cabella's kit, with Cabella's being the nicer kit.

Midway:

Kit Includes:
# Auto Disk Powder Measure with 4 disks. Each disk has 6 cavities. Conversion chart for many brands of powder is included.
# Lee Safety Scale
# Primer pocket cleaner
# Cutter and Lockstud
# Chamfer and Deburring Too

No safety prime, no riser, no Pro Auto Disk Measure and the older style press without all the really desireable features. Not a kit I would buy when the Lee Classic Cast is available. Be careful when you look at these things. The Classic Cast kit Cabella's is offering is worth the 50 dollars difference. AS they offer it, it's a heckuva lot faster to reload than the Midway kit.

So NO, it isn't the same kit. Buyer be aware.

What do you do if you have only 3 dies?

I bought the Lee Classic a few weeks back. Solid, solid construction, and a very well thought out design. I've been too busy to do any loading, instead I've been cleaning/organizing my reloading bench and setting the machine up.

Question: The press is clearly made to operate with 4-die sets...so what do you do if your die sets only have 3 dies (i.e. the bullet seater also crimps the bullets)? Do you just cycle the machine to get past the empty spot, or are you better off getting different dies (which I'd HATE to do)?

You cycle past it, but you don't have to do a full cycle, just enough to activate the index rod.

Sam,

You can cycle past it or you can add a Lee Factory Crimp die and separate your bullet seating and crimping operations. Since the Lee FCD is a superior crimping die, adding it is what I would do long term and short term, I'd cycle past it.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks much, guys. I'll probably get the FCD the next time that I order from Midway, or happen to see it on some shelf or display.

How do you separate out the crimp function if your bullet seating die also crimps ? Is it a matter of simply not screwing in the crimp part of the die enough to engage?

Sam, Screw in the bullet seating die until it lightly touches the shell holder.
Then back the die out three full turns. Adjust the screw on the top of the die to seat the bullet to the required depth.

This will seat your bullet without a crimp. You can then crimp & post size with the Lee Factory Crimp die.

Get on over to Lyman's site. They have reconditioned Orange Crushers & TMags...for half price.
