Les Classic Turret Versus Lee 4-Hole Turret with Auto-Index

Are these two presses the same thing functionally, but the Classic is a heavy duty construction?

JMHO: The primer seating and disposal is better on the the Classic. The Classic is also more "rigid" which is beneficial to the reloader.

The 4-hole turret press requires some work-arounds and a little more reloader "technique".

Both will functionally make very good ammunition.

I have the latter and now would have preferred the Classic, but not enough to go buy another press. I have loaded MANY thousands of very good 9mm cartridges on the 4-hole.

The classic cast has more headroom (it can load long rifle cartridges)

The classic cast drops the primers down a hole in the ram into a tube at the bottom

These two features alone, imo, make it worth every penny more that it cost

I have the Lee Classic Turret & use 4 hole turrets with it. All the research I did before buying pointed to the Classic as superior.

The through-the-ram primer disposal is pretty neat. ;)

After 2 years & thousands of pistol rounds I had to replace the little square plastic ratchet. Fifty cents from Lee.

I have both of them and honestly, I prefer the classic because of the primer disposal. It also feels more rigid then the 4 hole. I use 4 hole turrets on both of them of course.

The Classic reloads my rifle rounds, I havent tried it with the other one. Seems to be working just fine tho.

I've had both. Lee's naming always confuses me, so I'll just say...

This one..........

Is MUCH better than this one..........

Just my opinion, but it also seems to be common with most other folks opinions regarding these two presses.

The spent primer disposal alone make the Classic better.
I had the deluxe & the spent primers ended up all over the place.

If you're in the market, do your self a favor & spend the extra couple of bucks.
You'll be glad you did!

I taped a playing card between the 2 posts on the right to contain primers. It works pretty well. They didn't have the classic when I started reloading. or the safety prime. or the 4 hole press.

The standard 4 hole works fine, but the classic is much nicer. I'm a penny pinching fool, and I'd still say go for the more expensive model.

About 6 years ago I bought a Lee Deluxe Turret Press. About 4 weeks later I sold it and bought a Lee Classic Turret Press.

The Classic Turret Press had a heavier ram and linkage as well as the press itself being heavier. Like said above, it also handles spent primers better and it's a better all around press for not a lot more money.

Also, the Pro Auto-Disk Powder Measure is MUCH better than the standard Auto-Disk Powder Measure. Again it's well worth the small additional cost. The standard measure uses screws that thread directly into the hopper which is plastic. That will soon become loose. The Pro uses threaded bolts with knurled brass nuts instead of screws. The Pro also has a "hopper off" for unloading the hopper without making a mess. The standard does not, you have to remove the entire assembly and pour the powder back into the powder jug instead of just dumping the hopper.
