Lee shell holders in a RCBS Hand Priming Tool

I had a problem with Lee shellholders in my RCBS hand primer. The profile at the bottom is slightly different so the shellholder didn't push all the way back into the primer. That was a few years back and it's possible they changed the profile but i have not bought new Lee rifle dies in a long time.

Heck, I had trouble with one of my RCBS shellholders not fitting in my RCBS Hand Priming Tool. :scrutiny:

It turned out that they have, apparently, modded the design a tad since I acquired my original RCBS shellholders in the mid'70s.

As I recall, I also tried a couple of my Lee shellholders (didn't work) before just ordering a few new RCBS shellholders for the calibers that I was hand-priming.

Mine is an early 70's model.
And a complete set of Lee shell holders reside in the box with it.

They work perfectly.

Just make sure they are press shell holders (green box) and not Lee hand primer shell holders (red box) which are different and won't work.

Lee sells, or used to sell shell holder storage boxes. The red box was for the shell holders for the Lee priming tools, the green box was for the press shell holders. The boxes were designed with cavities that held the shell holders and had a usage chart on the back of the box.

The die sets come in a red box, at least for all the Lee dies sets that I have ever purchased.

I believe rcmodel is talking about the shell holder storage boxes.

If the shell holder fits all the way in and the primer pin goes all the way up then I would use them with confidence. I use both Lee and RCBS on a CH4D ram prime with good results as well.
