Lee universal depriming die

Okay. I just (today) received 100 1X fired .308/7.62 brass from my brother. Fifty cases are military crimped (staked) and fifty are Remington commercial. Never had to deal with crimped primers but after reading this thread, and others, the below looks like a rather inexpensive way to make use of them now and in the future.

I'm adding a press to my small tumbler station in the garage. The Lee pointy stick will keep a lot of the hobby crud out of the house.

Thanks, to the OP for posting a very, timely thread.

I use the Lee Universal deprimer die as a separate stage in the garage with the cheapest press Lee makes in the garage. I have 5 gallon buckets full of range brass and I prefer to deprime the dirty brass before tossing it in the sonic cleaner. Only then do I size my brass on my Forster press.

As with others, when I come back from the range I like to simply punch primers then begin cleaning right away. Also, my grandson loves to participate. He's only 6 so too young to start actually loading obviously but he thinks he really doing something "big boy" like when I set him down with a bunch of brass to simply de prime.

Lee states you will not scratch his carbide dies. How do you think they make them? They do abrade over time with fine dirt and dust. Might take your lifetime but they can wear. I prefer to decap only and wet clean with SS pins first to stop the grit from any potential wear on/in my dies. Also as a bonus the clean insides and primer pockets make inspecting easier for me.

Carbide is made by casting it in many shapes but after that nothing much shy of diamond tooling will touch it.

If I were to guess, the carbide inserts are made with a combination of EDM, then honing after pressing into the die. Ordinary dirt and dust won't touch it.
