Legal/illegal concealed firearm??

I read a post today that brought a legal question to mind:

If you carry a DISASSEMBLED firearm in a BOB/GHB/Etc. is it still considered to be a concealed firearm or just parts?

I'm wondering because it would seem to be a possible good way to LEGALLY carry a firearm with you in case you may need it before a emergency event, then, during the emergency, quickly assemble it and carry it openly/legally. I ask, because i would like to be able to carry a take- down long gun or pistol taken down , then assemble if the emergency arises. Thank you!

Technically, a reciever is a firearm.
Does not matter if it has parts attached to it, it's still a firearm.

So, a disassembled firearm is still a firearm and all laws pertaining to transport/carry still apply.

depends entirely on the state
there are states that consider a gun loaded if it's x many steps from firing, so a gun with a full, but not inserted mag in the same case might be considered 'loaded'...

and SHTF
we don't do that here, got to survival monkey
carrying around a gun in pieces? for what? cause when it's in pieces it ain't doing you any good

and more than a few have suggested that a firearm doesn't belong in a BOB, but rather if it's that important YOU should be carrying it.

BOB
bug out bag, a single bag ready to be grabbed and small enough to be carried by you
capable of sustaining you for 72 hours.

GHB = Get Home Bag. Something you keep in your car to assist you to make it home if the SHTF, and you have a longish commute from work to home.

No, the thread is valid, you asked

I was just trying to point out/keep it on topic and not off in SHTF la la land
that gets locked on the second page and everybody a not so nice PM from the mods

Regardless of WHY the gun is being carried disassembled in a case/bag/duct taped to forehead..... the answer still: Depends on state law :D

The receiver is a firearm. If you are prohibited by colored law from carrying and you are apprehended with "parts", you will be in hot water. If I machine up a DIA for an M16, which is but three miserable parts and am apprehended with it in my possession, I will be charged with NFA violation of possessing a machine gun without having paid the tax. There are other charges as well, but let us not go into those here.

Better to be judged by twelve, than be carried by six. Just a thought for all the boy scouts out there.

I have been told by law enforcement that if the ammunition is carried separately from the firearm (NOT in the mag), and the firearm itself is made inoperable (i.e., firing pin removed from receiver), and the parts are carried in separate locations (i.e., receiver in backpack, firing pin in shirt pocket, barrel in boot, etc), it should be legal to carry a disassembled firearm. But, as has been said, check with your own local law enforcement/government center for actual details.

My brother's ex-wife's second cousin LEO told me that only applied while you were walking on your hands! :D

You sure had some law enforcement "person" pulling your leg!

I suppose what he said might be true, but in most jurisdictions having the unloaded gun in a locked case is good enough.
