Hi,

I'm gonna be heading out to the Raleigh gunshow this weekend with probably a pistol and a rifle for sale. Being a recent PRK refugee, I have no experience selling stuff at gunshows. What do I need to do to comply with the law when selling? I'm under the impression that for a rifle I just need to do a bill of sale and that's that. With Pistol I know there's a permit required. Do I retain that permit or give it to the Sheriff or ??

Thanks!

IIRC, you retain the permit. I dont know how long you have to keep it though.

Since when do you need a permit to sell your guns to another individual in teh same state.
He doesnt need a permit to sell, the buyer has to have a purchase permit, unless the buyer has a CHP.

North Carolina gun owners seem to have no problems with the permit system.

It's been on the books since 1919!

"What sort of sillyness is that? You dont need a permit for pistols in FL."

I'm pretty sure it's an old Jim Crow law, and from what I've heard in Durham county, it's still used as such unfortunately.

I don't have much of a problem with it. My only complaint is a gray area for age to get one, and local authorities (read County Sheriff) determine whether you have to be 21 or not to get one. State law says nothing of the sort.

However, I like the new system where your concealed carry license acts in place of a permit. That makes most of the trouble go away ;)

Well the permit system is rather silly IMHO since you are not required to actually register the firearm in NC.

I bought a GP100 from a guy without the purchase permit with no troubles.

I even went so far as to have my local PD run the serial number to make sure the gun was not stolen and asked my county sherrif if I had done anything technically illegal in the purchase and he infoirmed me that while they DO require the permit to buy from a liscenced dealer, they know they cannot enforce sales between private citizens requiring a permit.

I currently have that GP100 at that gun show via a friend of mine in fact.
