Is it legal to add a folding stock to a pre-ban rifle that did not have one to begin with?
i.e. the rifle is old enough but it has always had a non-folding/wood/whatever stock, and (I'm making this up, so bear with me) you find a pre-ban folding stock that will fit it; is it legal to affix the stock, or is that now considered 'manufacturing a new assault weapon' out of old parts?

Rifle and folding stock made in the USA before the AWB.

I dunno and can't find the answer.

OK, so no one could tell anyway.
Unfortunately, i have no rifle(s) that a folding stock is made for that is also made in the USA (i.e. a folder on a Yugo SKS is illegal for sure).
So I don't even OWN a SKS folder- just dont want it around.
I honestly was making it up because i think its the only question I dont know the answer to regarding the AWB and evil features.

Anyone know for sure?

Gordon has it right. It's either an Assault Weapon or it's not. If the gun is already a pre-ban Assault Weapon (perhaps has a detachable mag, pistol grip and flash suppressor) then you can keep adding more evil features. Otherwise no dice until Sept.
