Now that the AWB has expired, is it legal to put a replacement folding stock with pistol grip on a rifle made in America?

Thanks,

Drakejake

Not only is it legal, but it is now required that you have a folding/collapsing stock, flash suppressor, or bayonette lug (with the appropriate bayonette of course) on at least one U.S. made(or assembled with enough U.S. made parts) rifle in your posession.

Need is irrelevent, you must comply.

It must still meet a minimum length with the stock folded, I'm not sure the exact spec on the min length.

Excellent! I just bought a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch and have a Butler Creek folder on order. I examined this stock on a Mini in a local gun shop and was impressed. I suppose a flash suppressor or compensator is also OK now.

Yes, a flash hider is legal now also.

A compensator or brake was always OK. It was just that during the "Dark Years" you had to have it permanently attached if it screwed on to a threaded barrel, lest ye be tempted to unscrew it and reveal those horribly evil threads or maybe even screw on a flash suppressor <gasp!>.

Have fun! :)

It's legal - except if you live in New York or some other state where they implemented bans similar, or worse than, the now expired 94 AWB.

The politicians of New York passed a law that duplicates the 94 AWB prior to the 94 AWB expiring. It's as if the AWB never expired here in New York. :fire:

That's a drag Luke. Luckily for Drakejake, he lives in a free state.

BTW, I used to live on L.I. Just about every day I thank the Lord that I moved out of that place, for a lot of reasons. Gotta love the South. :)

I'm hoping for Springfield Inc. to offer side folders for the M1A again.
My Bush Rifles waits with anticipation!

g56, I'm pretty sure ATF has "ruled" that the legal overall length must be met with the stock extended, not folded. Barrel must still be at least 16", of course.

Someone please correct me if I'm in error.

I put a Butler Creek folder on my mini-14 after the ban sunset. It's by far the best folder for the mini on the market, IMHO (even better than the Ruger factory folder, which looked cool but was rather clumsy to get into action). Solid with no rattles in both the closed and open positions.

My Mini 14 is the Ranch version and I hope that the Butler Creek folder works for this version. Anyone with experience on this?
